    Friendly fire: Wins over Nation FC, K-Sports FC

    Nairobi City Stars registered back-to-back wins in two friendly games played at St. Mary’s School on Saturday 18 September 2021.

    After a 1-0 win over Nation FC, the team went on to hit a tough Francis Kahata and Michael Kibwage inspired K-Sports coached by Keke Roy 2-0 to close the day on high.

    In the first game, a lone-headed goal by Ebrima Sanneh in the 50th minute, off a perfect float from the left by John Kamau, was the separator in the game.

    Nation FC, was spruced up by premiership players that included immediate former Posta Rangers pair of Alex Luganjio and Ezekiel Okare, and former Western Stima midfielder Augustine Kuta.

    In the second game, a goal by Sven Yidah – a flicked header at the near post – and a low shot fired at the far post in the second half by Vincent Jamaica Otieno – saw the second City Stars lot see off K-Sports.

    City Stars head Coach Nicholas Muyoti had this to say of the friendly games;

    “We used them to test combinations and game plans, as well as have a look at the fitness of the players,”

    “Both were very importnant as it gave me a hint of how the players react to different situations”

    “We will have one more friendly on Wednesday to fix what we saw and fine-tune the squad before the season opener on Saturday against Sofapaka.” he added

    Friendly fire: City Stars overcome Kimbo FC

    Nairobi City Stars took out Kimbo FC 5-0 in the first preseason friendly played at Giturai 44 on Saturday 11 September 2021.

    Three first-half goals by John Kamau, Vincent Otieno Okoth, and Ezekiel Odera in the fourth, 16th, and 33rd minutes, off assists by Timothy Ouma (corner), Odera, and Herit Mungai (passes), saw Simba wa Nairobi lead 3-0 at halftime.

    Two more goals by Rowland Makati and Nicholas Kipkirui in the 79th and 87th minutes, off assists by Kevin Okumu (freekick) and Edwin Buliba (header), ended the contest.

    The game handed incoming coach Nicholas Muyoti his first glimpse of the team ahead of the new season that sets off on Saturday 25 September 2021.

    Four changes for Bidco United clash

    Four changes reflect on the roster of players that forced a 0-0 draw away to Vihiga United as Nairobi City Stars train their guns on Bidco United in a premier league matchday 28 on Monday 26 July 2021 at Ruaraka starting 3 pm.

    Coach John Amboko has included keeper Elvis Ochoro, utility back Edwin Buliba and left-footed pair of John Kamau and Herit Mungai to his setup for the game.

    The four takeup slots vacated by Jacob Osano, stopper Kenedy Onyango who is suspended for the game, mid kingpin Peter Opiyo who is out due to a slight knock from the Vihiga game, and flyer Rodgers Okuse Okumu who takes a rest.

    Tracking back to the first leg game between the two back in December 2020, the changes total seven.

    Midfielders Oliver Maloba and Sven Yidah who featured started the game then are out with the Kenya U23 team in Ethiopia for the CECAFA Championship.

    Besides Kenedy and Opiyo, also out from the first leg squad is Jimmy Bageya who has since left the club.

    Fullbacks Kevin Okumu and Bolton Omwenga will be the new faces for the Monday game alongside left-back Wesley Onguso, defensive-mid Charles Otieno, forwards Davis Agesa and Nicholas Kipkiru, as well as Kamau.

    Sidelines for Kamau

    Left-footed John Kamau is set to stay out of action for a number of days following a recent injury suffered in training.

    Kamau, a backup on all positions on the left channel, suffered the injury in the past week while shaping up for the game against Western Stima.

    According to team physio Brian Odongo Otieno, Kamau will be out for up to three weeks to fully recover.

    “John Kamau sustained a lateral collateral ligament injury from training. He is expected to be out for 3 weeks for his treatment and rehabilitation,” he said

    Save for Kamau, a January 2020 signing from Tusker, all other players in the squad are fully fit and raring to go in upcoming games.

    Kamau, Ochoro Kitui-bound

    Left winger John Bombay Kamau and keeper Elvis Oblak Ochoro will be seeking vital playtime as Nairobi City Stars takes on Mutomo Tigers in a Betway Cup clash at Kitui Stadium on Saturday 13 February 2021.

    Kamau and teenager Ochoro are part of the 20-man squad named by head coach Sanjin Alagic for the round 64 game.

    Overall team skipper Calvin Masawa who returned to full training in the ended week after a quad injury layoff is also Kitui bound.

    As the trio make the squad, a few others have been given a much needed rest. They include keeper Steve Njunge and midfielder Peter Pinchez Opiyo who have played all 11 Premier League games so far.

    Salim Shitu Abdalla who has played one less game compared to Njunge and Pinchez takes a rest as well as recent Harambee Stars callup Oliver Maloba.

    Three other regulars in the first team; left back Herit Mungai, striker Davis Agesa and stopper Kenedy Vidic Onyango have been considered for the battle of the Cats in Kitui County.
