Sanneh heads to Wundanyi, Pinchez to claim armband

Six changes have been made to the squad that took on Ulinzi Stars in the last premier league game as Nairobi City Stars travels to face host Sofapaka at Wundanyi on Saturday 23 January 2021 in a round nine tie starting 3pm.

Due to injury, field skipper Anthony Muki Kimani was forced out of the team, alongside striker Vincent Otieno aka Jamaica who misses out for the first time this season. Also out are left footers Wesley Onguso and John Kamau.

Hitman from The Gambia Ebrima Sanneh joined the 18-man lot to Wundanyi as he seeks his first game of the season after recovering from offseason injuries. Due to his lengthy stay out, he is expected to start off the bench in the upcoming game.

He is joined by big unit Salim Shitu Abdalla who was given a much needed rest against Ulinzi due to a knock picked in the previous game against Posta Rangers at Kasarani.

Save for those few changes, the rest of the squad remains the same.

In the absence of field skipper Muki and overall captain Calvin Masawa who is out with a quad’s tear, Peter Pinchez Opiyo will claim the armband.

    Minimal changes against Ulinzi Stars

Two defenders Salim Shitu Abdalla and Edwin Buliba have been ruled out of the upcoming clash against Ulinzi Stars to be held at Utalii Grounds on Saturday 16 January 2021 starting 3pm.

Shitu, who clocked all minutes in the seven opening games of the season, was ruled out due to an ankle injury picked from the last tie against Posta Rangers at Kasarani last Friday.

Buliba, a defensive cover, picked a thigh strain in the course of the week forcing him out of the upcoming duel to miss out on the squad for the first time this season.

As Shitu and Buliba stay out, defensive minded John Bombay Kamau and Charles Chale Otieno who were onboarded for the opening game of the year against Wazito, have been drafted back to the squad.

Both Kamau and Chale fell off the squad that faced Rangers; Chale due to a returning wrist injury.

Save for the those changes, the rest of the squad remains the same.

Osano, Onguso in for Rangers clash

Entry of keeper Jacob Osano and left back Wesley Onguso Arasa are part of four changes effected to the 20-man squad named to face Posta Rangers in a round seven Premier League game set for Kasarani on Friday 8 January 2021 starting 3pm.

After missing out on the first six games into the Premier League season, Osano and Onguso have made it to the match day and are in search for their debut top flight games for Simba wa Nairobi.

Osano missed the initial games largely due to sickness and will now take up the place of teenage keeper Elvis Ochoro who has been acting as the understudy for Steve Njunge.

Onguso has been onboarded to contest a place against his former employers Rangers of overall team captain Calvin Masawa who suffered an ankle injury in training in the lead up to the game.

Till his injury setback, Masawa had made the squad for all the games into the season.

A third change sees the return of dependable forward Davis Agesa Amuyunzu sat out the last three games against Bidco United, Vihiga United and Wazito due to illness. He takes up the place of midfielder Charles Chale Otieno who was forced out due to a swollen arm.

The final change is on flyer Rodgers Okumu who returns after missing out the Wazito game. He takes up the place of John Kamau who featured in the last game as a substitute.

Ugandan defender Yusuf Mukisa Lubowa who was hoping for a place in the squad was left out after a muscle tear on his calf

  • City Stars falls to Wazito

    City Stars falls to Wazito

Peter Opiyo’s late penalty and a determined fightback to the end by Nairobi City Stars were not enough as Wazito hang to two first half goals to win a sixth round Premier League game 2-1 at Utalii grounds on Sunday 3 January 2021.

Kevin Kimani was the toast for Wazito as he scored a brace off assists by winger Boniface Omondi.

Kimani’s first arrived in the 16th minute after he was picked at the blind unmarked by a right sided cross from Omondi to fire past former Wazito keeper Steve Njunge.

In the 42nd minute he doubled the scores via the penalty spot after left back Herit Mungai brought down Omondi in the box.

With ten minutes left Anthony Muki Kimani was brought down in the box after meeting a cross from left winger John Kamau – making his Premier debut for City Stars – and Pinchez stepped up to score his first goal in City Stars colors.

The goal came two minutes after stopper Salim Shitu Abdalla had just missed to place home a long range freekick from the left by Muki.

Early in the game, in the eight minute, Oliver Maloba picked out Muki in the box but he shot wide.

Five minutes after the opening goal Wazito could have made it 2-0 but a point-blank close range shot by Michael Owino was blocked by Shitu.

On 36 minutes Njunge in City Stars was on high alert to parry off a left cross from the Omondi for a fruitless corner.

City Stars response was immediate as two minutes later right back Azizi Okaka swung a cross into the box but it missed the attention of Ezekiel Odera and Muki to go wide.

Muki could have atoned for that miss when he dinked a rather tame shot goalward only for it to bounce off the cross bar with Odhiambo in Wazito goal seemingly beaten.

The second half saw City Stars up the ante but Wazito played in safe countering any upward move. And that’s how it ended with the hosts carrying the day.

In spite of the loss City Stars maintains fifth place with eight points as Wazito moved to the same tally to sit seventh on goal difference.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is a home game against Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday 9th January 2021.
