Head to head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs AFC Leopards (A)

On Tuesday 3 August 2021, Nairobi City Stars will host AFC Leopards for the tenth time in the premier league, this time during a match 30 tie in the 2020/21 season set to start at 3.15 pm in Ruaraka.

It will be the first time since May 2006 that City Stars will host Leopards at Ruaraka.

Back then, when the team was known as World Hope, City Stars won it 1-0 thanks to Geoffrey Okoth’s 20th-minute strike.

In the last nine home encounters, results have been discrete as draws have never been registered. City Stars has beaten Leopards five times and lost the other four.

Though City Stars has taken most points from its home games with Leopards, they start on the back foot having lost the first leg tie 1-0 after conceding a 94th-minute goal at Kasarani Annex.

In the last home games, City Stars has outscored Leopards 10 goals to seven.

Between the first leg game and now, the major change at City Stars is the exit of Coach Sanjin Alagic whose contract expired. His place has since been taken up by John Amboko.

Leopards on their part still have Patrick Aussems as the man in charge.

Heading to the game, City Stars sits fifth in the standings and just ahead of Leopards on goal difference.

Form-wise, City Stars is eighth in the standings, four places higher than Leopards.

Head to Head: Tusker (H) vs Nairobi City Stars (A)

On Friday 30 July 2021, Tusker will host Nairobi City Stars at Ruaraka starting 3.15 pm in a Betking Premier League matchday 28 clash.

It will be the 26th time the two will face off in the top flight, but the 13th time that Nairobi City Stars will be hosted by the current log leaders.

The two teams last met in March during the first leg, the game ending 2-2 after Tusker rallied to score twice in the second half to cancel out quickfire goals by skipper Anthony Muki Kimani in the first half.

From the previous 12 games away to Tusker, City Stars has managed three wins and three draws, and lost the other six.

It will be the fifth time City Stars will be hosted at Ruaraka by Tusker after visits in 2004, 2009, 2010, and 2014.

The 2004 and 2010 games ended in 1-0 wins in favor of Tusker, while the 2009 and 2014 games ended 1-1.

Into the upcoming game, one conspicuous change is the absence of coach Sanjin Alagic who handled the first leg game for City Stars. His role has since been taken up by John Amboko who will come up against his former coach Robert Matano.

Tusker currently sits top of the 17-team log with 55 points, with a 17 point buffer on Simba wa Nairobi who is further down in ninth spot with 38 points.

Form-wise, Tusker carries a draw to the latest game as City Stars is reeling from a 2-1 loss to foes Bidco United.

Head to head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs Bidco United (H)

For the first time this season, Nairobi City Stars will host Bidco United in the premier league in what many dub the ‘NSL derby’ in a matchday 28 game at Ruaraka on Monday 26 July 2021 starting 3 pm.

The two come face to face at a venue where Bidco United came out tops with a 1-0 win during the quarterfinals of the Betway Cup back in June.

During the first leg clash played at Utalii in December 2020, the two sides eked out a barren draw.

    Bidco vs City Stars: Stalemate!

There is one major change to the City Stars stable ahead of the epic clash. Coach Sanjin Alagic who was at the touchline then has since left the club and in his place is coach is John Amboko who was his understudy.

Bidco United still has the services of coach Anthony Akhulia who promoted the side at the end of last season.

In the standings, City Stars sits ninth with 38 points as Bidco comes in at eleventh, six points back.

The two carry similar form to the Monday game; a win and two draws from their last three premier league games.

Head to Head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs Western Stima (A)

On Tuesday 15 June 2021, Nairobi City Stars will host Western Stima in a premier league tie for the first time since 11 September 2016.

The upcoming matchday 20 game is a reversal this season to the first leg game played on 24th February 2021 at Moi Stadium, Kisumu. City Stars won it 2-0.

Headed to the game, some factors remain constant; Sanjin Alagic is still the head coach at City Stars while Juma Abdalla is the man leading Western Stima.

Form-wise, City Stars sits ninth in the 17-team standings with 23 points from 18 rounds as Stima is ten points below at 15th spot.

Though there is a clear gap in between, City Stars must be wary of visiting Stima.

Statistically, City Stars has hosted the Westerners nine times before since the year 2008.

Of the nine games, City Stars has only managed one win; 1-0 back on 2 May 2010 at Hope Centre, thanks to a George Odari strike.

Four (4) of the other home games have ended in defeats for City Stars and the remaining four (4) in draws.

The nine games in Nairobi, played at either Nyayo Stadium (six games), City stadium (1) and Hope Centre (2), have been low scoring with Stima outscoring City Stars seven goals to four.

In the Tuesday game, City Stars, hosting Stima for the first time ever at Ruaraka, will be seeking to break over ten years of never beating Stima in Nairobi.

Simba wa Nairobi heads to the game with two straight wins over Sofapaka (3-0) and Kariobangi Sharks (2-1) as Western Stima comes to it from a 4-0 hiding by Kakamega Homeboyz, and a 1-1 home draw against Bandari in their last game.

The game comes almost two years since City Stars held Stima to a 1-1 draw at Camp Toyoyo in April 2018, when both sides were seeking promotion to the premier league while in the second tier.

Herit called in for Western Stima duel

Herit Mungai is the only change as Nairobi City Stars steps up to face Western Stima in a round 20 premier league clash on Tuesday 15 June 2021 at Ruaraka starting 1 pm.

Mungai takes up the place of Charles Otieno who drops out from the last active squad that bowed out of the domestic Cup after a 1-0 fall to Bidco United at the same venue on Thursday.

Herit, a left-back cum left-winger, was last in the squad that took on Fortune Sacco in the domestic cup earlier in the month but went on to miss the next two against Ulinzi Stars, then Bidco.

The squad also see the retention of Erick Ombija who suffered a straight red card against Gor Mahia in mid-May.

He has served his suspension after sitting out two premiership games against Sofapaka and Kariobangi Sharks.
