    Six changes against Zoo

    Head coach Sanjin Alagic has made four changes and two additions to the squad that faced Kakamega Homeboyz last time round for the upcoming Premier League game against Zoo FC at Kasarani on Saturday 20 February 2021 starting 1pm.

    Returning right back Kevin Chumsy Okumu, Ebrima Sanneh and Wesley Onguso are all in for the round 12 match in place of Aziz Okaka, Vincent Otieno Jamaica Okoth and regular left back Herit Mungai Atariza who receives a much needed rest.

    Chumsy re-signed for City Stars, albeit on loan from Wazito, and will be seeking his debut Premier league game for Simba wa Nairobi against Zoo.

    Teenage keeper Elvis Ochoro who made the bench for the first six games makes a return to the squad to replace Jacob Osano who has been reserve keeper in the last five games.

    Adding on to the list is field skipper Anthony Muki Kimani who has been out for the last one month due to a shoulder injury.

    Sven Yidah, who got injured during a game against his former side Kariobangi Sharks, and forced to miss the Homeboyz trip, is also in for the Zoo game.

    As explained by team physio, all players who were on the injury list returned to full fitness days to the Zoo game and were eligible to play.

    Utility back Edwin Buliba and overall Calvin Masawa were however rested for the game alongside left footed John Kamau.

    Kamau, Ochoro Kitui-bound

    Left winger John Bombay Kamau and keeper Elvis Oblak Ochoro will be seeking vital playtime as Nairobi City Stars takes on Mutomo Tigers in a Betway Cup clash at Kitui Stadium on Saturday 13 February 2021.

    Kamau and teenager Ochoro are part of the 20-man squad named by head coach Sanjin Alagic for the round 64 game.

    Overall team skipper Calvin Masawa who returned to full training in the ended week after a quad injury layoff is also Kitui bound.

    As the trio make the squad, a few others have been given a much needed rest. They include keeper Steve Njunge and midfielder Peter Pinchez Opiyo who have played all 11 Premier League games so far.

    Salim Shitu Abdalla who has played one less game compared to Njunge and Pinchez takes a rest as well as recent Harambee Stars callup Oliver Maloba.

    Three other regulars in the first team; left back Herit Mungai, striker Davis Agesa and stopper Kenedy Vidic Onyango have been considered for the battle of the Cats in Kitui County.

  • Osano, Onguso in for Rangers clash

    Osano, Onguso in for Rangers clash

    Entry of keeper Jacob Osano and left back Wesley Onguso Arasa are part of four changes effected to the 20-man squad named to face Posta Rangers in a round seven Premier League game set for Kasarani on Friday 8 January 2021 starting 3pm.

    After missing out on the first six games into the Premier League season, Osano and Onguso have made it to the match day and are in search for their debut top flight games for Simba wa Nairobi. 

    Osano missed the initial games largely due to sickness and will now take up the place of teenage keeper Elvis Ochoro who has been acting as the understudy for Steve Njunge.

    Onguso has been onboarded to contest a place against his former employers Rangers of overall team captain Calvin Masawa who suffered an ankle injury in training in the lead up to the game.

    Till his injury setback, Masawa had made the squad for all the games into the season.

    A third change sees the return of dependable forward Davis Agesa Amuyunzu sat out the last three games against Bidco United, Vihiga United and Wazito due to illness. He takes up the place of midfielder Charles Chale Otieno who was forced out due to a swollen arm.

    The final change is on flyer Rodgers Okumu who returns after missing out the Wazito game. He takes up the place of John Kamau who featured in the last game as a substitute.

    How we lineup against Nzoia

    Save for skipper Anthony Muki Kimani and offensive Oliver Maloba, there will be nine new players lining up in Nairobi City Stars colors as the team hosts Nzoia Sugar at the Narok Stadium on Sunday 29 November 2020 starting 1pm.

    This is as head coach Sanjin Alagic from Bosnia makes his bow in the Kenyan top flight in Nairobi City Stars 321st Premier League game, the first since 19th November 2016 in the season when the team got relegated.

    While Muki last featured for City Stars in the Premier league in 2009, but rejoined the club in July 2019, Maloba was part of the 2016 lot.

    Four offseason signings; Keeper Steve Njunge from Wazito, Kenedy Vidic Onyango from Kakamega Homeboyz, striker Erick Jibaba Ombija from Gor Mahia and left back Herit Mungai Atariza from Coast Stima will all start against Nzoia.

    They are joined in the starting 11 by defenders Salim Shitu Abdalla and Wycliffe Wiki Otieno, as well as midfielder Elvis Noor Ojiambo who all joined the team in July 2019.

    Vidic and Shitu will be the stoppers as Herit and Wiki take their places as fullbacks.

    Teenager Elvis will have Peter Pinchez Opiyo, and Muki for company in the mid as Ombija and Maloba operate on either wings. Agesa, the City Stars all-time top scorer in the NSL, will lead the lines upfront.

    Three teenagers; Elvis Ochoro and Vincent Otieno Okoth, both signed from Hakati Sportiff, as well as Laiser Hill alumnus Timothy Babu Ouma, will start off the bench.

    Ezekiel Odera who scored the clubs 304th and last Premier League goal in 2016 is part of the firepower on the bench as well as overall captain and City Stars longest serving player Calvin Masawa.

    Utility back Edwin Buliba and new signings Sven Yidah and roving winger Rodgers Okumu complete the bench.

    Nairobi City Stars squad for the 2020/2021 Premier League season

    Nairobi City Stars will navigate the first leg of the 2020-21 FKF premier league season with a total of 29 players: three (3) goal keepers, nine (9) defenders, 12 midfielders, and five (5) strikers. 

    A total of eleven new players onboarded in the offseason and this includes goalkeepers Elvis Ochoro (Hakati Sportiff) and Stephen Njunge (Wazito FC).

    Defenders Mukisa Lubowa Yusuf (Proline FC) from Uganda, left back Herit Mungai (Posta Rangers) and centre-back Kenedy Onyango (Kakamega Homeboyz) all joined Simba wa Nairobii.

    Midfielders; Rowland Makati (Vapor Sports), Timothy Ouma (Laiser Hill Academy), Ronney Kola (KSG Ogopa FC), Sven Yida (Kariobangi Sharks) also  joined the club in the offseason as well as flyer Rodgers Okumu (Coast Stima) and striker Erick Ombija (Gor Mahia).

    Two players; – Makati and Kola – will however head out on loan at second tier side Nairobi Stima to seek work experience over the season.

    Last season’s captain Noah Abich, who has since retired from playing, drops to the bench to become an apprentice to coach Sanjin joining former City Stars players John Amboko and Arthur Museve.
