MD7: Nairobi City Stars 2 Gor Mahia 1

A Dennis Oalo goal on 68 minutes in Machakos is what Nairobi City Stars needed to see off champions Gor Mahia 2-1 on Monday 28 Oct, 2024, for their first win of the season.

Oalo’s goal topped up on Robinson Asenwa’s opener on 59 minutes to complete a come-from-behind win that ended a 13-match winless run stretching back to last season.

Simba wa Nairobi trailed the game 1-0 at half time following a fortuitous Levian Odhiambo goal on 24 minutes off a long range shot, off a cleared corner, that bounced awkwardly and out of reach of keeper Edwin Mukolwe.

Mohammed Bajaber picked out Asenwa for the opener 14 minutes after the restart and with a clever control that beat the offside trap he was sure with the leveler.

Asenwa then turned provider after receiving a long ball from skipper Sven Yida to square it for Oalo who finished it off with a header. It earned him the man of the match accolade.

With the first three points of the season, City Stars moves off from bottom spot and up four places to settle at 14th spot with five points.

Beat up for Simba wa Nairobi is an away trip to Shabana in Gusii Stadium on Saturday 2 November starting at 3pm.
