City Stars peg back Police in Naivasha

Visiting Nairobi City Stars surprised hosts Kenya Police 3-2 as the two faced off at Karuturi grounds in a match day seven clash on Sunday 6 October 2019.

Salim Abdalla’s maiden goal for City Stars in the 74th minute turned out to be the winner against a Police side that were in search of their first win this season.

Police went up first in the 15th minute with Arvine Adoyo’s goal after he capitalize on poor defensive cover by City Stars.

The opening goal lasted just six minutes as Simba wa Nairobi leveled matters in the 21st minute through skipper Anthony Kimani who volleyed home a cross from Jimmy Bageya.

It all started with a darting move from Davis Agesa on the right wing resulting on the ball falling to Bageya’s feet who then.

City Stars took the lead in the 40th minute after lead striker Ebrima Sanneh from Gambia headed in off a long throw in by Wesley Onguso.

15 minutes from time Salim headed City Stars winning goal after getting to the end of Onguso’s freekick that was flicked his way by Sanneh.

Just four minutes later Police got their second through James Gachoka who got to the end of a rebound from keeper Levis Opiyo with a clever finish at the near post.

City Stars then survived a nervy ending to secure the win that sent them to the 19-point mark as Police remained in the lower reaches of the 20-team standings with two points.

City Stars survives red card at Mbaraki

Despite playing a man short after the ejection of Cornelius Mwangi in the second half, travelling City Stars hang on to see off hosts Coast Stima 2-1 in a National Super League (NSL) clash played at the Mbaraki Sports club on Monday 23 September 2019.

Two quick fire goals by Vincent ‘Jamaica’ Otieno – his maiden one for the club and Oliver Maloba in the first half eventually proved enough.

The team survived a late rally by the hosts but gave away a penalty that Joshua Ouko slammed home for their consolation.

Stima, handed their fourth loss in five games by City Stars, stayed 15th in the 20-team log with three points.

City Stars ends Bidco’s fine run

Visiting Nairobi City Stars brought Bidco United’s three game winning start to a rude ending after squeezing in a 1-0 win at the Thika Stadium on Wednesday 18 September 2019 during a round four National Super League (NSL) match.

Gambian striker Ebrima Sanneh was at the right place at the right time to tap home the lone goal in the 32nd minute for his fourth goal in as many games.

Teenager Vincent ‘Jamaica’ Otieno, an off season signing from Hakati Sportiff, did the donkey work on the right of goal to provide a low teasing ball into the box for the unmarked Sanneh.

Bidco regrouped well for the second half and did everything to find a way out but were thwarted time and again by City Stars keeper Levis Opiyo whom they failed to beat on all occasions. Levis was eventually named man of the match.

Against Bidco, Davis Agesa stepped up to start in place of Jimmy Bageya who was pronounced ill just before the game as Oliver Maloba, David Gateri and ‘Jamaica’ picked up their first starts of the season.

Left back Wesley Onguso started the game, for his debut, when he benched skipper Calvin Masawa thereby shifting the arm band to midfielder Anthony Muki Kimani.

After the Bidco win, City Stars went above their foes to sit second on the log with ten points to sit just behind Nairobi Stima on goal difference. Stima drew 0-0 with Ushuru in Naivasha.

Next up for City Stars is an away game to Coast Stima in Mombasa on Monday 23 September 2019.

Point at Hope against Vihiga United

Nairobi City Stars were held to a barren draw by visiting Vihiga United in a National Super League (NSL) match day three clash played at the Hope Centre, Kawangware on Friday 13 September, 2019 starting 3pm.

City Stars went to the game hoping to stretch their two-game winning start into the season following wins over Shabana (2-0) at the same venue and against Vihiga Bullets (2-1) in Kakamega, as Vihiga paraded a win-draw streak.

But it was not to be as Vihiga United, relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, forced the hosts to share spoils in mustering the draw.

The visitors had the hosts on the ropes in the first half and could have taken the lead had Alex Waiswa’s shot in the 36th minute not ricocheted off the base of the upright.

Substitute and crowd favorite Oliver Maloba changed the tempo of the game at the start of the second half soon after being introduced for Elvis Ojiambo and could have easily sent the hosts ahead within minutes had he not miscued a perfect cross from the left by Jimmy Bageya. His time shot whiskered above the horizontal.

Mid way through the first half a mis-kick from the City Stars back line almost gifted Vihiga with the winning chance but Waiswa’s blockbuster echoed off the cross bar.

It settled at 0-0 leaving City Stars to maintain third place with seven points as Vihiga moved to eighth place with five points.

“Against such a strong opponent we will take in a point,” said City Stars head coach Sanjin Alagic after the game

Next up for City Stars is an away trip to Bidco United on Wednesday 18 September, 2019.
