MD10: Nairobi City Stars 3 AFC Leopards 2

Nairobi City Stars ended a two-game winless streak in the league, and at home to AFC Leopards, with a 3-2 triumph on Saturday 4 November 2023 during a 2023/24 FKF Premier League clash.

Simba wa Nairobi, with up to seven changes to the squad that lost 2-1 to Muranga SEAL in midweek, took a 3-0 lead before Leopards fought back to add respectability to the scoreline very late in the game.

Vincent Owino scored off a free kick in the 22nd minute for a 1-0 halftime lead. Samuel Kapen scored the second ten minutes after the restart after beating the last man and the keeper to score into an empty net.

Seven minutes later, newcomer Robinson Asenwa, who started his first-ever premier league game, scored a beauty – his second straight goal in three days – to make it 3-0 for the hosts.

Leopards scored a penalty in the 84th minute through Brian Yakhama and followed it up with a second off a freekick five minutes later through Vicent Otieno. But it was a little too late as Simba wa Nairobi held on to register a seventh home win over Leopards in 13 games.

Not only did City Stars win the game, but also provided the MVP in midfielder Brain Mzee who had won the same accolade on match day two against Bidco United.

With the win, Simba wa Nairobi moved two places up to eleventh on the log with 12 points, as Leopards dropped to 15th on eight points.

Next up for City Stars is an away game to Tusker during matchday eleven on Saturday 11 Nov 2023 in Ruaraka starting at 3 p.m.

Vincent Owino: It’s time to convert our chances

Nairobi City Stars midfielder Vincent Owino believes that, with better conversions in front of goal, team results can be a lot more different.

Owino, best referred to as Oti, has been reflecting on recent games where Simba wa Nairobi has scooped four points from as many drawn games.

His sentiments came just days before City Stars play AFC Leopards in a matchday 31 FKF Premier League tie on Monday 29 May 2023 in Nyayo Stadium starting at 3 p.m.

“As a team, we are working on how we will utilize our chances to score more goals. Lately, we’ve been creating many chances but we fail to utilize them,”

“We have since worked on that and I am confident in our next game against AFC Leopards we will convert better and win the game,”

“According to our previous matches against Tusker, Ulinzi, and Bandari, we played well as a team. We also defended well and we also attacked well. We created the chances but we failed to execute them forcing us to take home one point.” he added

Owino joined Simba wa Nairobi in the mid-transfer window in March 2023 from Premier League side FC Talanta.

He has so far featured in eleven games clocking 885 minutes on his way to completing seven games. He has scored three goals, and provided two direct assists and four-second assists.

Vincent Owino: We will survive relegation

Mid-season signing Vincent Owino is confident that Nairobi City Stars will make a leap out of the red zone and escape relegation by season’s end.

Owino joined in February from FC Talanta and found City Stars in the lower reaches of the 18-team log. But he is overly confident that the situation will change sooner than later.

“We will survive relegation and God willing we’ll manage a better position at the end of the season,”

“Personally, I will always work hard to serve the team to my best.” added Owino

So far, Owino has scored three goals, provided two assists, and registered three-second assists in six second-leg games he’s featured for Simba wa Nairobi.
