    ‘Jamaica’ back in training

    Forward Vincent Otieno Okoth aka Jamaica is back in training after weeks out due to an injury suffered during a friendly training game in Ngong Vapor.

    According to team physio Brian Otieno Odongo, Jamaica is now in good shape and raring to go.

    “He is now fully fit after recovering from tendinitis. He is back to full training, and up for selection in upcoming games,”

    On his part, the former Hakati Sportiff forward said; “Yes I am back and I want to do everything to be back in the squad,”

    Jamaica last featured for City Stars in mid-March against Bandari at Mbaraki. He has so far featured in seven games this season and has one goal to his name – his debut premiership goal against Vihiga Bullets.

    Injury slows down trio

    Nairobi City Stars trio of Peter Opiyo, Vincent Jamaica Otieno Okoth,, and Erick Ombija have been slowed down by recent injuries.

    As per updates from team physio Brian Otieno Odongo, the three are being closely monitored as they recuperate from their varied ailments.

    “Vincent is out for a while due to tendinitis suffered during a friendly in Ng’ong. Ombija is out with a knee injury that occurred in training while Opiyo is on rest after sickness,”

    “Vincent and Ombija will soon start light training as we monitor Opiyo’s progress,” said Odongo

    Both Jamaica and Ombija have missed the last three games while Opiyo has been out of the last league games.

    While highlighting the state of the three, Odongo gave an update on two other players who have been on the injury list.

    Steve (Njunge) has already kicked off rehab as well as Ronny Kola. In a matter of weeks they will be good to go.” said Odongo

    Both Njunge and Kola were kept out of action due to knee injuries.

    Three changes against Posta Rangers

    Introduction of Vincent Jamaica Otieno, Rodgers Okuse Okumu, Erick Ombija and Sven Yidah are the four changes made from the squad that faced Bidco United last weekend, for the upcoming tie against Posta Rangers set for Thika Stadium on Wednesday 9 March 2022 starting 3 pm.

    Jamaica returns after missing the last ten games as Sven and Okuse make the squad once again after sitting out the last two games against Mathare United and Bidco United.

    Ombija is in ending a four-game miss.

    The quartet take up the places of Elvis Noor Ojiambo, John Kamau, Charles Otieno and Ezekiel Odera who saw red in the last encounter.

    From the squad that faced the same side in late October 2021 at the same venue, posting a 1-1 draw, changes are four.

    Jacob Osano, the starting keeper then, is still on rest and his place has been taken up by Elvis Ochoro.

    Odera who started the game then, Mike Madoya who was a late sub, and Elvis Noor Ojiambo who was an unused sub, are all out.

    Their places have been taken up by defender Herit Mungai, Augustine Kuta, and Peter Opiyo.

    Friendly Fire: Liberty Sports 1 Nairobi City Stars 6

    Nairobi City Stars came from behind to see off Liberty Sports 6-1 in a friendly match played at the Gems Cambridge School grounds on Wednesday 2 March 2022.

    Boniface Wambete capitalized on an uncleared ball to bang home the opener for Liberty Sports within three minutes of kick-off.

    Mike Madoya then leveled for Simba wa Nairobi in the 19th minute after pouncing on a delivery from right-back Kevin Chumsy Okumu.

    Augustine Kuta, off another Chumsy delivery, scored in the 44th minute to hand City Stars a 2-1 advantage at the break.

    Immediately after the restart, Rowland Makati extended the lead with a goal after a poor clearance from the Liberty backline.

    That opened the floor for Vincent Otieno to grab his brace in the 51st and 60th minutes. Oliver Maloba was to add the final one in the 71st minute off an assist from Nicholas Kipkirui.

    The match handed play time to players who missed out on the opportunity to feature in the last league game against Mathare United, or those that did not clock full minutes, ahead of the next game against Bidco United on Saturday 6 March 2022.

    “Credit goes to Liberty Sports who handed us a very good and competitive friendly. They had a good game approach and have good players but were only outdone due to experience,” said head coach Nicholas Muyoti after the game

    The friendly handed stopper  Wycliffe Wiked Otieno his first game since August 2021  marking and end to months of rehab due to a dislocated ankle. He came on as a sub.

    Friendly fire: Nairobi City Stars 4 Kibra United 1

    Nairobi City Stars registered a 4-1 win over Kibra United in a friendly match played on Monday 7 Feb 2022 in Ligi Ndogo.

    The friendly aimed at giving most of the players who missed, or did not register full minutes, the Saturday game against Kariobangi Sharks that City Stars went on to win 1-0.

    City Stars led 1-0 at halftime courtesy of a Timothy Babu Ouma goal off an assist by Anthony Muki Kimani.

    Another Babu – Rowland Makati – doubled matters halfway through the second half after getting to the end of fullback Kevin Chumsy Okumu.

    Makati’s goal set the tone for Mike Madoya to add the third with a shot in the box. Nicholas Kipkirui provided the assist.

    Kibra United grabbed one of their own, a consolation, after a set of neat passes to fire home within the final ten minutes of the game.

    City Stars restored their three-goal cushion after Vincent Jamaica Otieno pounced on a perfect Chumsy pass from deep to beat Kibra United keeper at close range for the fourth goal.
