Head-to-head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs Vihiga Bullets (A): 2021/22 FKF Premier League season

Vihiga Bullets will be guests to Nairobi City Stars at Ruaraka on Saturday 6 November 2021 for a sixth-round FKF Premier League tie set to roll off at 3 pm.

It’s a historic game as the two sides have never met in the top-flight league.

While it will be the first premier league meet, it will only be the third time that City Stars and Bullets will be facing off in the recent past.

While in the second tier during the 2019/20 National Super League (NSL) season, the two met twice, with City Stars posting a 2-1 away win at Bukhungu in September 2019 before topping up with a 2-0 win in the reverse game at Camp Toyoyo in January 2020.

The Bukhungu game was played twice in two days. Due to force majeure -heavy rains-, the first game aborted when City Stars was leading 1-0 in the 78th minute.

Into the upcoming game, City Stars has so far picked ten points from the first five games compared to one by their visitors.

From the immediate past set of games, City Stars managed a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers as Bullets ran neighborhood rivals Kakamega Homeboyz close before narrowly being edged out 3-2 at Bukhungu. They had twice come from behind to tie the game 2-2.

Those results will set up the tone for the Ruaraka affair on Saturday evening when Vihiga Bullets Coach Evans Mafuta parades his boys against his counterpart Nicholas Muyoti.

City Stars will have up to ten players that met Bullets in Toyoyo back in January 2020 available for the upcoming game.

They include goal scorers Oliver Maloba and Ezekiel Odera, as well as Ebrima Sanneh who scored a brace in the first leg.

    Head-to-head: Posta Rangers (H) vs Nairobi City Stars (A): 2021-22 FKF-PL season

Nairobi City Stars will be guests to Posta Rangers at the Thika Stadium on Saturday 30 October 2021 during a fifth-round 2021/22 FKF Premier League match that kicks off at 1 pm.

It will be premier league game 11 between the two since the year 2010, and the sixth that Rangers will be hosting City Stars.

In January 2021, in the first top-flight meeting between the two since the year 2016, Simba wa Nairobi came from behind to tie Rangers 1-1 at Kasarani Annex. They also left it late to tie the reverse tie played in August at Ruaraka 2-2.

In the five premier league games hosted by Rangers, the two sides have each picked one win apiece with the other three ending in draws.

There will be a change in personnel at the touchline in the upcoming game compared to the one Rangers hosted back in January this year.

Sammy Pamzo Omolo was in charge of Rangers then while Bosnian Sanjin Alagic was on the City Stars side. That has since changed with Stanley Okumbi taking over from Omollo as Nicholas Muyoti took the baton from Sanjin.

Of note ahead of the upcoming game is that Rangers and City Stars have never faced off in a premier league game at the Thika Stadium.

Coming to the game, City Stars carries a three-game winning streak after triumphs over Kenya Police (2-0), Wazito (3-1) and Bidco United (2-0) while Ranfers is reeling from a 2-0 defeat from Homeboyz which ended a two-game winning run over Vihiga Bullets (4-0) and Bandari (2-0).

  • Muyoti: Playing the City Stars way earned us Bidco win

Muyoti: Playing the City Stars way earned us Bidco win

Two second-half goals by Nicholas Kipkirui and Erick Ombija handed ‘hosts’ Nairobi City Stars a 2-0 win over ‘visiting’ Bidco United a the Thika Stadium on Sunday 24 October 2021 in a fourth-round 2021/22 FKF Premier League tie.

The win sent Simba wa Nairobi top of the table with nine points ahead.

Speaking after the game, Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti said it was a game of two halves; one where the team didn’t click, and the other where the team’s will to win took precedence.

“We were not in it in the first half. We didn’t settle and Bidco had the most of the ball. The beauty is that we didn’t concede and that helped turn around the game,”

“At half time I told the boys that the team that played in the first half was not City Stars. My instructions were simple; play as City Stars in the second half. And that was the difference in the game.” added Muyoti

Kipkirui got to the end of a freekick by teenage sensation Timothy Babu Ouma in the 57th minute to activate the scoresheets in Thika, opening his account this season.

Ombija, moments after coming on, got to the end of a Kipkirui delivery to double matters with a tap at the far post.

After taking down Bidco United to avenge a 2-1 league loss back in July, Simba wa Nairobi can now train their guns on Posta Rangers whom they visit on Saturday 30 October.

Onyango, Ouma in Week 3 dream team

For a second successive round of games in the 2021/22 FKF Premier League season, Nairobi City Stars provided two players to the team of the week.

Stopper Kenedy Vidic Onyango who made the Week 2 dream team alongside Davis Beast Agesa, returns once again and is accompanied by teenage sensation Timothy Noor Ouma aka Babu.

During round three of games, City Stars took down Wazito 3-1 at the Thika Stadium to end a streak of six straight league losses by the same side.

Onyango scored the opening goal on 76 minutes with a power header off Dennis Decha Wanjala’s freekick.

That opened the floor for Babu – later named MVP after the match – to double matters just two minutes later in what was his third goal in as many matches.

Rodgers Okuse Okumu added the final one a minute to time. Eric Ombija provided assists for the last two goals.

Beyond the dream team inclusions, Simba wa Nairobi head coach Nicholas Muyoti was picked as the coach of the week as City Stars was named Team of the Week.

Top honors for Muyoti, City Stars after week 3

Following a 3-1 romp over Wazito on Thursday 21 October 2021 during a round 3 clash at Thika Stadium in the 2021/22 FKF Premier League tie, Nairobi City Stars landed three nominations; coach, player, and the team of the week.

And it was a double joy as head coach Nicholas Muyoti was named coach of the week as the team was picked out as the team of the week.

Teenage forward Timothy Noor Ouma aka Babu, whose star keeps rising by the day, did not make it out of the four-player nomination list. The award went to Kariobangi Sharks’ Felix Oluoch

He scored on Thursday adding on to goals in the first two games against Sofapaka and Kenya Police to bring his tally in the season to three goals from as many matches.

    Speaking on the accolades, Muyoti said;

“Great. Team work. We thank God for this and pray for more as we continue putting our efforts together.”
