Stopper Tedian Esilaba Atuto as well as wingers David Gateri and Nahashon Thiong’o have all been cleared by Nairobi City Stars to join other clubs in the current transfer window that opened on 25th January 2021.

Thiong’o has now been cleared to join National Super League (NSL) Mwatate United where he will link up with two former City Stars players Cornelius Mwangi and striker Stephen Citi  Mwangi. All left the club in December 2019.

Gateri has moved to Bidco United as Esilaba, who joined Simba wa Nairobi on a short term deal in January 2020 from Fortune Sacco, is headed to AFC Leopards.

During the pre 2020/21 season window, some of the players that switched clubs at the expiry of their contracts included Kevin Chumsy Okumu (Wazito), Levis Lovae Opiyo (Gor Mahia) and Eric Cantona Ochieng (Mt. Kenya United).

Peter Mwangi Wine Wainaina (Kangemi United) who exited the club in December 2019 as well as Stephen Mweni (Mwatate United), also made moves in that window.

    Three on the move

Former Nairobi City Stars players have found new homes in the past week during the ongoing January-long transfer window.

Defender Cornelius Mwangi who joined City Stars  has moved over to promotion chasing Division one side Mwatate FC. He joined City Stars from Modern Coast Rangers in July and left at the turn of the year.

His decamp follows on that of midfielder Boaz Maeri who has been enlisted by lower tier side Kahawa United.

Maeri was part of the squad that kept City Stars afloat in the National Super League (NSL) in the 2018/2019 season. He left at the expiry of his contract in June last year.

Budding keeper Vincent ‘DC’ Khatili now in the books of second tier outfit Kibera Black Stars started the movements last week. The move assured him of first team football.

City Stars part ways with two

After six months, Nairobi City Stars has amicably parted ways with two players; winger Nahashon Thiongó and centre back Cornelius Mwangi.

The two were part of the nine key signings announced in July 2019 soon after the arrival of coach Sanjin Alagic.

While Mwangi was roped in from National Super League outfit Modern Coast Rangers, Thiong’o arrived from relegated Premiership side Mt. Kenya United.

    Commenting on the exit of the two, club CEO Patrick Korir said;

“The two were good servants and we thank them for their services to the club. We wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”

City Stars has since confirmed the arrival of midfeilder Peter Pinchez Opiyo and winger Azizi Odenyi Okaka.

  • Four changes for ‘unknown’ Muranga SEAL

Four changes for ‘unknown’ Muranga SEAL

Nairobi City Stars head coach Sanjin Alagic has made four key changes to the squad that posted a barren draw against Ushuru last Friday as he shapes up for National Super League (NSL) round 15 game against Muranga SEAL at Camp Toyoyo on Monday 18 November 2019 starting 4pm EAT.

Midfield marshal Anthony Muki Kimani returns to the squad after two games out serving a red card he received in match day 12 against Migori Youth at Camp Toyoyo. He walks straight to the starting 11 sending teenager Elvis Noor Ojiambo down to the bench.

The three other changes sees the bench tweaked to include midfielder Peter Mwangi Wainaina (pictured) and center back Cornelius Mwangi. They take up the places of Eric Ochieng and Edwin Buliba, respectively.

Ojiambo’s drop-down to the bench sends last season’s top scorer and skipper Noah Abich out of the 18-man squad while Muki’s entry to the team means there’s no place for Congolese winger Heritier Luvualu who made a sub appearance against Ushuru last Friday.

Save for Muki’s entry to the first eleven, the starting cast against Ushuru all maintained their places. Oliver Maloba and David Gateri, considered impact players in recent matches, will once again start the game as outfielder Jimmy Bageya, keeper Ronny Kagunzi and overall skipper Calvin Masawa all start on the bench.

Muranga SEAL, promoted to the second tier NSL this season, is an ‘unknown’ entity to City Stars as the two have never met in their football paths before.

Starting XI vs Muranga SEAL: 23. Levis Opiyo, 5. Wesley Onguso, 4. Salim Abdalla, 22. Wycliffe Otieno, 28. Kevin Okumu, 3. Charles Otieno, 30. Anthony Kimani, 25. David Gateri, 17. Davis Agesa, 21. Oliver Maloba, 29. Ebrima Sanneh,

Subs: 1. Ronny Kagunzi, 2. Elvis Ojiambo, 8. Calvin Masawa, 18. Jimmy Bageya, 16. Vincent Otieno, 15. Peter Mwangi Wainaina, 24. Cornelius Mwangi
