Following the Coronavirus outbreak that led to the indefinite stop of the Betika super League from Monday 15 March 2020, Nairobi City Stars has granted head coach Sanjin Alagic leave to return to his home country Bosnia.
The coach jetted out on the evening of Thursday 19 March to join his family while the pandemic continues to be monitored globally.
“We fully understand the situation and during this time all sporting activities are at a halt. After discussions with the chair Mr. Jonathan Jackson it was only fair that we grant the coach leave to allow him join his family in Bosnia,” said club CEO Patrick Korir
“He will return once everything normalizes. In the meantime we have asked him to come up with a program that players can follow for the next one month while they continue to operate from home.” added Korir
Commenting on the scenario at hand, Sanjin said;
“When it’s uncertain you can’t plan. It’s best I go stay with my family during this period then at the right time I will return to complete the project. My family needs me at this time.” he said
Sanjin’s last assignment was to oversee a tough game against promotion chasers Nairobi Stima on Saturday at Camp Toyoyo in Jericho. City Stars won it 1-0 to open up a ten-point gap over the chasing pack.
Once in Bosnia Sanjin is expected to observe a 14-day quarantine period before he can freely mingle with his family.
