Kuta the only change against Ulinzi

Midfielder Augustine Kuta has returned to Nairobi City Stars lineup ahead of an FKF Premier League game against Ulinzi Stars in Ruaraka on Sunday 10 April 2022 starting 3 pm.

Kuta is the only change from the 20-man lot that beat Bandari 2-1 at the same venue on Saturday 2 April 2022.

Kuta missed that win but is now back in place of field skipper Anthony Muki Kimani who was ruled out of the game due to job commitments.

City Stars and Ulinzi have not faced off this season and are meeting for the first time. The reverse game will be next weekend.

Charles Otieno: Team character keeps us going

Six months into the current 2021/22 FKF Premier League season, Nairobi City Stars defensive-mid Charles Chale Otieno opines that the will to overcome from the entire lot is what keeps the team going.

Chale’s comments come at a time that Simba wa Nairobi is coming off a bad patch in March having lost three of four games, before returning to winning ways against Bandari at the start of April 2022.

The win kept City Stars at third in the standings with 41 points from 24 games.

“First I want to thank God for the season and also for the chance to be where we are. It is about our character as a team that has got us going considering the recent disappointments of losing. But we are standing tall and fighting hard.” added Otieno

Chale, in the ranks of City Stars since 2017, has been key to City Stars upward trajectory having been named to the squad in 19 of the 24 games played so far.

Nairobi City Stars 2 Bandari 1

Two goals within five minutes by Timothy Noor Ouma and Ezekiel Odera handed Nairobi City Stars a 2-1 win over Bandari during an FKF Premier League matchday 24 tie played at Ruaraka grounds on Saturday 2 April 2022.

The game had a nervy finish after Bandari grabbed what turned out to be a consolation in the 78th minute via a penalty by substitute Umaru Kasumba. The Ugandan forward was felled in the box after a touch from stopper Salim Abdalla.

Ouma activated the scoresheet with his fifth goal of the season in the 15th minute with a sublime freekick that beat keeper Moses Wanyika all the way. Stopper Lennox Ogutu won the freekick after being fouled soon after receiving a mid-pitch ball from Kevin Okumu.

In the 20th minute, Odera smacked home a low drive for his seventh goal of the season after completing Ouma’s cross that received a mild touch from skipper Anthony Muki Kimani.

The win turns around a 1-0 defeat to the same side in the previous round in Mombasa.

City Stars moved to the 41 point mark after the win but returned to third by end of the day after Tusker held KCB to a 1-1 draw at the same venue.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is a home game against Ulinzi Stars in Ruaraka on Sunday 10 April 2022 starting 3pm
