Maloba the hero as 10-man City Stars stops Migori

Simba wa Nairobi roared once again to stay unbeaten into the new season after coming from behind to see off Migori Youth 2-1 at Camp Toyoyo, Jericho during a match 12 game on Saturday 2 November 2019.

City Stars were down 1-0 after just 14 minutes when Migori’s lead striker Clinton Okoth pounced on a ball following a defensive mix up to slam home at the far post – his eight goal of the season – past a stranded Levis Opiyo in goal.

It got worse for City Stars six minutes later after conceding the goal as skipper Anthony Muki Kimani the midfield engine was slapped with a straight red card after a reckless challenge on a Migori’s Robert Ouma.

Down to ten men, it looked all lost for City Stars who are unbeaten in the NSL since May 2019.

A forced substitution minutes later saw the introduction of former Kibera Black Stars playmaker Elvis Noor Ojiambo for striker Vincent ‘Jamaica’ Otieno who was sacrificed for the game.

Stabilization of the midfield was immediate and in the 38th City Stars were level after left back Wesley Onguso whipped in a free kick that striker Davis Agesa flicked in.

It was Even-Steven into the break and to the closing minutes of the game when substitute Oliver Maloba rammed home the winning goal after getting to the end of a free-flowing move in the 86th minute.

With the win, City Stars moved to the 32-point mark after 12 rounds to open a nine-point gap over Migori who stagnate at fourth with 23 points.

Next up for the boys from Kawangware is FC Talanta at Camp Toyoyo on Friday 8 November 2019.

Coach Sanjin calls on fans ahead of Migori clash

National Super League (NSL) leaders Nairobi City Stars will be against fourth placed Migori Youth in a round 12 clash at the Camp Toyoyo on Saturday 2 November starting 12 noon.

On 29 points, City Stars has six points on the visiting Migori Youth. Both had a similar run in October having each won four games and drawn once.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming game City Stars head coach is aware of Migori’s potency but will be banking on recent results to outwit their recent form.

“It is a difficult task in front of us against a team that has registered good results in their last matches. We have made good scouting and analysis of them though so we will use this week to prepare for that challenge,”

“We are leaders in table, still unbeatable, with nine wins and two draws. We hope that we will continue with this good performance and good results when we face Migori,”

“The team has shown great character and determination to win in every match. We play open attacking football, we create many chances and perform well from beginning of Championship so we have right to hope for positive result.” Added the Sarajevo-born tactician

On shift of venue from Hope Centre to Camp Toyoyo necessitated by weather, the coach is calling on fans to understand and come along to Jericho to cheer the team on.

“Yes we will play in Toyoyo camp and not in our home ground at Hope Center but I really hope that will not stop our fans to come in large number and be our 12th player in our fight to comeback to Premier league where NCS really belong.” he said

Change of venue for Migori clash

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has obliged to City Stars request to host their upcoming clash against Migori Youth on Saturday 2 November 2019 at Camp Toyoyo instead of Hope Centre, Kawangware.

The shift was necessitated by the deteriorating surface at the Hope centre as witnessed during the last game Fortune Sacco last week on Monday.

The new details for the upcoming round 12 game as confirmed by FKF are as follows;

Keeper Opiyo passed fit for Migori Youth test

After sitting out a National Super League (NSL) round 11 game against Mount Kenya United on Sunday 27 October 2019 due to injury, goalkeeper Levis ‘Lovae’ Opiyo has now been passed fit for the upcoming contest against Migori Youth on Saturday at Camp Toyoyo.

Opiyo was rushed to Hospital in the previous game against Fortune Sacco mid through the first half after suffering whiplash that saw him clip the upright as he dived to save a dangerous shot on goal. He was replaced by Ronny Kagunzi.

An MRI check revealed he had no head injury from the heavy impact but as precaution was omitted from the Mount Kenya game.

“Just before the last game I felt a slight pain as I turned my neck. But I am now fully fit and ready to reclaim my spot in the starting lineup in the upcoming game against Migori.” Said a beaming Opiyo

Save for his substitution in the game against Fortune Sacco and the miss in the last game, Opiyo had clocked all minutes for City Stars in the first nine games of the season.
