Kola makes the big leap from lower tier side Kenya School of Government (KSG), a club that made the semis of the Nairobi region Chapa Dimba na Safaricom finals held in February 2020 at Jamhuri High School.

Kola becomes the third signing at Simba wa Nairobi in the current transfer window after Rowland Makati from Vapor Sports and Timothy Ouma from Laiser Hill Academy.

Chumsy says bye

After four good years at Nairobi City Stars, versatile right back cum winger Kevin Çhumsy Okumu (pictured no. 28) has waved good bye.

Okumu arrived at City Stars in mid-2016 from Young Rovers at a low moment as just months later the team got relegated from the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) to the second tier.

He left almost exactly four years later with an exact opposite – having contributed to the club’s promotion back to the KPL after four seasons in the cold. He scored twice and had four assists in the 70.3% minutes earned during the promotion rally.

Okumu became a free agent in July 2020 at the expiry of his contract. In spite of having an offer from the club for an extension, the on-demand Chumsy opted to scan the horizon for a fresh challenge.

He left with a clear parting shot;

“They were 4 good wonderful years. In June 2016 when I received offer from Nairobi city Stars, I was convinced that this was where I had to play,”

“Today I am certain that it was the best of decisions. There were so many happy times, some sad and it was always very intense,”

“I learnt a lot about myself. I developed a great deal, becoming a better player and a better person. With each training session, with each game, with every minute spent in dressing room, I was always learning,”

“The time has now come to move on. I am certainly going to miss my teammates. I will miss all the staff at the club who’ve always treated me like a son and I will miss the fans,”

“I leave with my head held high, safe in the knowledge that I won things here and always did my best in a Nairobi City Stars shirt!”

“My heartfelt thanks go out to all of you and God bless you!”

Commenting on his departure, club CEO Patrick Korir said;

“He served us diligently and we at Nairobi City Stars wish him the very best in his future endeavors. Simba wa Nairobi‘s blessings are with him.”

In joining City Stars, Kevin followed the path of his sibling Collins Okumu who featured for the club in the 2014 season.

Chapa Dimba MVP confirmed at City Stars

Teenage midfielder Timothy Ouma from Laiser Hill Academy has joined Simba wa Nairobi on a long term deal.

Ouma, also known as Babu – same as another new signing Rowland Makati – is the reigning Chapa Dimba Rift Valley Most Valuable Player, an accolade bestowed on him in early March 2020 at the Kericho Green Stadium after he led Laiser Hill’s comeback to finish off dreaded Kapenguria Heroes for the regional title.

During the final, that Laiser Hill went on to win on post match penalties after a 1-1 regular time stalemate, Ouma endeared himself to City Stars coach Sanjin Alagic who witnessed the epic final.

Prior to the tournament in Kericho, Ouma had been accompanying his sibling Elvis Noor Ojiambo for City Stars training on his school off days.

“I had been training with City Stars occasionally and I was blown away by the coaches’ approach,”

“I was asked to return after school and I am more than elated to have been considered and handed a contract ahead of the next season,” said the excited Ouma

Adding his voice to Ouma’s arrival at the Simba wa Nairobi den was team coordinator Samson Otieno;

“He proved himself early when he attended our training sessions. Only schooling kept him away from us but he has since concluded his studies and can now focus on football,”

“His qualities are in no doubt and we believe he will fit in well in the soonest time possible with the rest of the squad. We welcome him onboard. ” added Otieno

Babu will don jersey no. 20.

Speaking soon after putting pen to paper, an excited Makati said;

“It’s been a dream to join Nairobi City Stars. I am excited, very excited to finally have a chance to join the club especially at a time they have been promoted to the Kenyan Premier League.”

Ushering Makati at Simba wa Nairobi was team coordinator Samson Otieno.

“Since being spotted at Chapa Dimba our scouts have been on his trail for months and had it not been for corona virus we could have engaged him much earlier. He is a player full of potential, with the right skill set and mentality,” said Samson

“He comes on board as part of our youth program and is one of five players below 20 years of age that we will be registering for the upcoming season to add the right balance to a team full of experience,”

“We thank Escalators for nurturing him and Vapor Sports for stepping up his football to Division One and for further allowing him to pursue his dream of joining Simba wa Nairobi.”

Babu joins a long list of players that have joined City Stars over the years from Vapor Sports.
