City Stars disunites Bidco to go top

Second-half goals by Nicholas Kipkirui and Erick Ombija handed ‘hosts’ Nairobi City Stars a 2-0 win over ‘visiting’ Bidco United in a fourth-round 2021/22 FKF Premier League tie played at Thika Stadium on Sunday 24 October 2021.

Kipkirui – later named MVP – got to the end of a freekick by Timothy Noor Ouma aka Babu in the box to slam home the opening goal in the 57th minute before turning provider to Ombija who tapped home a ball across goal to double the scores four minutes later.

With the win, City Stars shot to the top of the 17-team log with nine points as Thika-based Bidco remains 14th with two points.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is an away game to Posta Rangers at the Thika Stadium on Saturday 30 October 2021 starting 3pm.

  • No change against Bidco United

    No change against Bidco United

Head coach Nicholas Muyoti has maintained the same lot that took out Wazito 3-1 on Thursday 21 October 2021 in a third-round 2021/22 FKF Premier League clash for the next duel at the same venue against Bidco United on Sunday starting 1 pm.

With the status quo in the playing unit, Salim Shitu Abdallah who was unavailable for the Wazito game, as well as Oliver Maloba, will not be facing Bidco United on Sunday.

Peter Pinchez Opiyo who skipped the July home game due to injury, will also miss the game against the club based in his hometown.

From the squad that faced Bidco in Ruaraka in late July 2021, and went down 2-1, changes are seven.

Keeper Elvis Ochoro, left fullbacks Bolton Omwenga, Wesley Onguso, and Herit Mungai, as well as stoppers Salim and Wycliffe Otieno, are all out.

Midfielders Aziz Okaka and John Kamau are all not in the Sunday plans. Okaka, Onguso, and Bolton have since left Simba wa Nairobi.

Keeper Jacob Osano takes up Ochoro’s slot, as stoppers Kenedy Vidic Onyango who was suspended in July due to accumulated yellow cards, and new signing Lennox Ogutu occupy slots vacated by Salim and the injured Wycliffe.

Sven Yidah who was on duty with Kenya U23 at CECAFA, Eric Ombija who was on compassionate leave, and fleet-footed Rodgers Okuse Okumu who was rested then, are all in for the Sunday show after missing the Bidco clash in July.

New signing Mike Madoya, in from Tusker in the offseason, takes up the final spot.

  • Onyango, Ouma in Week 3 dream team

Onyango, Ouma in Week 3 dream team

For a second successive round of games in the 2021/22 FKF Premier League season, Nairobi City Stars provided two players to the team of the week.

Stopper Kenedy Vidic Onyango who made the Week 2 dream team alongside Davis Beast Agesa, returns once again and is accompanied by teenage sensation Timothy Noor Ouma aka Babu.

During round three of games, City Stars took down Wazito 3-1 at the Thika Stadium to end a streak of six straight league losses by the same side.

Onyango scored the opening goal on 76 minutes with a power header off Dennis Decha Wanjala’s freekick.

That opened the floor for Babu – later named MVP after the match – to double matters just two minutes later in what was his third goal in as many matches.

Rodgers Okuse Okumu added the final one a minute to time. Eric Ombija provided assists for the last two goals.

Beyond the dream team inclusions, Simba wa Nairobi head coach Nicholas Muyoti was picked as the coach of the week as City Stars was named Team of the Week.

  • Top honors for Muyoti, City Stars after week 3

Top honors for Muyoti, City Stars after week 3

Following a 3-1 romp over Wazito on Thursday 21 October 2021 during a round 3 clash at Thika Stadium in the 2021/22 FKF Premier League tie, Nairobi City Stars landed three nominations; coach, player, and the team of the week.

And it was a double joy as head coach Nicholas Muyoti was named coach of the week as the team was picked out as the team of the week.

Teenage forward Timothy Noor Ouma aka Babu, whose star keeps rising by the day, did not make it out of the four-player nomination list. The award went to Kariobangi Sharks’ Felix Oluoch

He scored on Thursday adding on to goals in the first two games against Sofapaka and Kenya Police to bring his tally in the season to three goals from as many matches.

    Speaking on the accolades, Muyoti said;

“Great. Team work. We thank God for this and pray for more as we continue putting our efforts together.”

    Head-to-head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs Bidco United (A): 2021-22 FKF-PL season

Nairobi City Stars will ‘host’ Thika-based Bidco United on Sunday 24 October 2021 at the Thika Stadium, starting 3 pm, in a fourth-round 2021-22 FKF Premier League match.

It will only be the third time that the two teams will be facing off in the Premier League, and just the second time that City Stars will host Bidco United.

During a similar fourth-round tie last season, held at Utalii, host Bidco United forced a 0-0 draw in the first-ever top-flight meeting between the two sides.

Bidco went on to win the reverse tie hosted by City Stars at Ruaraka 2-1 adding on to a 1-0 win posted earlier during a 16th round domestic Cup tie at the same venue.

A notable departure from last season is the change of personnel on the Simba wa Nairobi side.

Bosnian Sanjin Alagic who handled all three games against Bidco United last season has since left. Nicholas Muyoti, immediate former coach at Kakamega Homeboyz, is the man in charge of City Stars.

Heading to the Sunday tie, host Nairobi City Stars carries two straight wins over newly-promoted Kenya Police (2-0) and Wazito (3-1) as Bidco is reeling from a loss to Bandari (3-2) and draw to Ulinzi (1-1).
