Muyoti: Playing the City Stars way earned us Bidco win

Two second-half goals by Nicholas Kipkirui and Erick Ombija handed ‘hosts’ Nairobi City Stars a 2-0 win over ‘visiting’ Bidco United a the Thika Stadium on Sunday 24 October 2021 in a fourth-round 2021/22 FKF Premier League tie.

The win sent Simba wa Nairobi top of the table with nine points ahead.

Speaking after the game, Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti said it was a game of two halves; one where the team didn’t click, and the other where the team’s will to win took precedence.

“We were not in it in the first half. We didn’t settle and Bidco had the most of the ball. The beauty is that we didn’t concede and that helped turn around the game,”

“At half time I told the boys that the team that played in the first half was not City Stars. My instructions were simple; play as City Stars in the second half. And that was the difference in the game.” added Muyoti

Kipkirui got to the end of a freekick by teenage sensation Timothy Babu Ouma in the 57th minute to activate the scoresheets in Thika, opening his account this season.

Ombija, moments after coming on, got to the end of a Kipkirui delivery to double matters with a tap at the far post.

After taking down Bidco United to avenge a 2-1 league loss back in July, Simba wa Nairobi can now train their guns on Posta Rangers whom they visit on Saturday 30 October.

    Head-to-head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs Wazito (A): 2021-22 FKF-PL season

For the second time in a year, but in different seasons, Nairobi City Stars will host Wazito on Thursday 21 October 2021 in a third-round FKF Premier League season at the Thika Stadium starting 3 pm.

Last season, City Stars hosted the same side at Ruaraka in a 23rd round 2020/21 Premier League tie that Wazito went on to win 1-0.

It will only be the third meeting in the Premiership between the two, and City Stars will be keen on a different result considering Wazito completed a double of wins last season.

One major change ahead of the clash is that City Stars has a new head coach in Nicholas Muyoti who took over from Bosnian Sanjin Alagic who left at the expiry of his contract in June.

Wazito is still under the watchful eyes of coach Francis Kimanzi.

Into the game, City Stars sits ninth on the log with three points from their recent 2-0 win over Kenya Police as Wazito is 15th with a single point earned from the first two games of the season.

Date, venue shift for Wazito clash

Nairobi City Stars will host Wazito at Thika Stadium on Thursday 21 and NOT at Ruaraka on Wednesday 20 October 2021 as planned. Kick-off remains at 3 pm.

The shift of the third round 2021/22 FKF Premier League tie was necessitated by the temporary unavailability of Ruaraka to host any league matches.

Host Bidco United came from behind to tie Nairobi City Stars 1-1 at the Thika Stadium on Saturday 7 November 2020 during a pre-season friendly played over two extended halves.

While City Stars won the first, Bidco United reversed the tide to claim the second half.

Skipper Anthony Muki Kimani sent Simba wa Nairobi 1-0 up after 20 minutes when he converted a penalty awarded after winger Vincent Jamaica Otieno forced a handball in the box.

On the other half, immediate former Muranga SEAL player Anthony Gathu, rattled home a poor clearance that dropped outside the box to level matters.

In the past two Saturdays City Stars played hosts Ligi Ndogo and Kariobangi Sharks and registered a 4-0 win and 1-1 draw, respectively.

“I am satisfied with how the team played the game and the outcome especially in the first half and overall progression of the team since we started preseason. In the next few weeks we will be fully ready for the season.” said head coach Sanjin Alagic after the game

More friendly games have been lined up in the weeks to come.
