Nairobi City Stars ended a two-game winless streak in the league, and at home to AFC Leopards, with a 3-2 triumph on Saturday 4 November 2023 during a 2023/24 FKF Premier League clash.

Simba wa Nairobi, with up to seven changes to the squad that lost 2-1 to Muranga SEAL in midweek, took a 3-0 lead before Leopards fought back to add respectability to the scoreline very late in the game.

Vincent Owino scored off a free kick in the 22nd minute for a 1-0 halftime lead. Samuel Kapen scored the second ten minutes after the restart after beating the last man and the keeper to score into an empty net.

Seven minutes later, newcomer Robinson Asenwa, who started his first-ever premier league game, scored a beauty – his second straight goal in three days – to make it 3-0 for the hosts.

Leopards scored a penalty in the 84th minute through Brian Yakhama and followed it up with a second off a freekick five minutes later through Vicent Otieno. But it was a little too late as Simba wa Nairobi held on to register a seventh home win over Leopards in 13 games.

Not only did City Stars win the game, but also provided the MVP in midfielder Brain Mzee who had won the same accolade on match day two against Bidco United.

With the win, Simba wa Nairobi moved two places up to eleventh on the log with 12 points, as Leopards dropped to 15th on eight points.

Next up for City Stars is an away game to Tusker during matchday eleven on Saturday 11 Nov 2023 in Ruaraka starting at 3 p.m.

Nairobi City Stars forward Robinson Asenwa grabbed a late consolation in Muranga as Nairobi City Stars went down 2-1 to the home team Muranga SEAL on Wednesday 1 November 2023 during a ninth-round 2023/24 FKF Premier League match.

The goal may have turned out to be a consolation, but it came with a world of meaning for Asenwa who was only playing his fourth Kenyan premiership match.

“It is exciting to score in the Kenyan premier league. It’s a dream come true. It has stirred me within and has made me believe that anything is possible,”

“It was my opening goal and deep down I believe there are many more from me to come. It made me believe that I can do it and I will now work extra hard to top up on it.” added the former Vapor Sport flyer

In the Muranga SEAL tie, Asenwa was introduced at the onset of the second half and went on to complete the game. He had previously made cameo appearances against Gor Mahia on his debut, Shabana, and KCB.

Substitute Robinson Asenwa’s maiden Premier League goal late in the second half was not enough as Nairobi City Stars went down 2-1 to Muranga SEAL during a ninth-round 2023-24 FKF Premier League match.

Asenwa, on for Mohammed Bajaber at halftime, was teed up by another substitute Andrew Kisilu for what turned out to be a consolation in the 80th minute.

Muranga SEAL scored within the first ten minutes off a rebound through Titus Kapchanga, and doubled matters three minutes after the hour mark. Both goals came off blunders at the back.

City Stars ended up a man short after lead striker Kelvin Etemesi saw a straight red in the 5th minute for a stretched elbow. He had been yellow-carded earlier in the first half.

While Muranga SEAL moved to the 17-point mark to solidify a top-three placing, Simba wa Nairobi dropped to 13th still holding on to nine points.

Robinson Asenwa: City Stars my gateway

Forward Robinson Asenwa is overly optimistic that Nairobi City Stars is his conduit to greater things.

The flyer joined Simba wa Nairobi from Vapor Sports in the off-season and is at the point of establishing himself in the team.

He does believe that the exposure coming through will propel his sails further.

“I am glad to have joined Nairobi City Stars at the top level. So far it’s been a good journey. I have so far played two games against Gor Mahia and Shabana, said Robin

“My debut against Gor gave me very good exposure. I enjoyed it to the fullest and even fans told me I came in with good impact,”

“I hope City Stars will continue to give me that kind of exposure. Talent within the club is abundant which makes me appreciate the move to join this team which is from my hood even more,”

“I hope for the best, and I know from here I can make the right moves, from City Stars to the world,” he added

In the two games played, Asenwa has so far registered a collective 32 premiership minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute on both occasions.
