Mohammed Bajaber delighted with Premier League debut

His big moment came, finally! After three and a half months of waiting, attacking midfielder Hamudi Mohammed Bajaber, on loan from Starfield Academy, made his Kenyan Premier League debut on Sunday 15 May 2022 in Ruaraka as Nairobi City Stars held champions Tusker FC to a 0-0 draw.

Bajaber replaced forward Nicholas Kipkirui in the 85th minute to great applause from the fans watching on.

His first touch of the ball a minute after coming on, a header to an Augustine Kuta freekick, flew just wide.

“Mohammed had a good debut. Though on for a short time, it is evident he has the quality needed,” said head coach Nicholas Muyoti

Mohammed’s debut came a week after he had been named to the squad for a premier league game for the first time ever, in the previous game against Wazito FC. He was an unused substitute.

“I am really glad I made my (premier league) debut and earned some playtime infront of fans. I hope I can continue this way and help the team move forward,” said Bajaber

He now has his work cut out; to push for more minutes in the final four games of the season against KCB, Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, and FC Talanta within the next one month.

    Maloba out for the season

The 2021/22 FKF Premier League season is over for Nairobi City Stars attacking midfielder Oliver Maloba.

The flyer, at this best in the last few games, suffered rib fractures in the game against Kenya Police in Ruaraka on Labour Day after a collision with keeper Reuben Juma.

The collision occurred in the 75th minute as Maloba went for a goal. He lay on the ground for a few minutes before being taken to the ambulance for the remainder of the game to be stabilized.

“Following tests, Maloba suffered multiple fractures on two of his ribs and requires up to six weeks of total rest to heal. He is on medication and close observation,” said team physio Brain Otieno Odongo

Head coach Nicholas Muyoti has spoken about the abrupt absence of one of his main architects Maloba.

“Maloba had been a force, especially in our most recent games. It’s unfortunate his season has ended early due to injury. We will certainly miss him,”

“We have to move on though and his absence becomes a good challenge to the players available; they need to step up to take his place.” said Muyoti

On his part, a distraught Maloba said; “It is sad that the season is over. But what to do. Let me concentrate on healing.”

Maloba had featured in 23 of 28 games to clock 1,183 minutes and scored two game-winning goals in identical 1-0 wins over champions Tusker and Ulinzi Stars.

Nairobi City Stars will on Sunday 1 May 2022 host Kenya Police in Ruaraka in an FKF Premier League matchday 28 tie starting 3 pm.

It’s a historic game as Simba wa Nairobi has never hosted Kenya Police in the Kenyan topflight.

Police were promoted at the end of last season making a return to the premier for the first time since 1981.

During the first leg encounter, City Stars toppled Police 2-0 at Kasarani Annex during the second game of the season in early October 2021.

Heading to the game, Police comes to Ruaraka on the back of a 2-2 draw against table-topping Kakamega Homeboyz as City Stars is reeling from a 2-0 loss to Sofapaka from the last encounter in the same venue last weekend.

Personnel-wise, coach Nicholas Muyoti is gearing up for his second game against Police who will be led by Sammy Pamzo Omollo. Kenyan legend John Bobby Ogola was in charge of Police during the first leg tie.

Table-wise, City Stars is fourth on the log with 45 points as Police is 13th with 30 points.
