Elite Pre-season Cup: Nairobi City Stars 4 MCF 1

A Daniel Odhiambo goal in added time just before half time break, and three more in the other half through Ezekiel Odera, a Kenedy Onyango penalty, and from Kelvin Etemesi led Nairobi City Stars to a 4-1 win over MCF on Saturday 24 September 2022 at Kasarani Annex during the second pool B tie in the Elite Pre-season Cup.

Oliver Maloba was the toast after he provided three assists; for the first goal and the second one in the 58th minute, and went on to win the penalty in the 64th minute that yielded the third goal. Elvis Ojiambo provided the cross that Etemesi bundled home the fourth goal in the 80th minute.

MCF substitute Isiaka Aleji tapped home a cutback for the consolation goal in the 79th minute. He came on a sub ten minutes earlier for Erick Michibu.

The win followed up on a 1-1 draw against Kenya Police during the opening game at the same venue on Tuesday 20 September 2022.

Eleven players re-up their contracts for the new season

Eleven players have renewed their contracts and will stay on at Nairobi City Stars for the upcoming 2022/23 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League season.

Goalkeepers Jacob Osano and Steve Njunge, stoppers Kenedy Vidic Onyango and Edwin Buliba, fullbacks Calvin Masawa and Herit Mungai, are some of the players who re-upped their contracts.

Midfielders Peter Pinchez Opiyo, Anthony Muki Kimani, and Oliver Maloba are also staying on for another season.

Forwards Mohammed Bajaber who was on loan in the last half of last season from Starfield Academy is in for another season, as well as record-chasing scorer Ezekiel Odera.

“All the eleven players had run down their contracts at the close of last season but we are happy that they agreed to stay on for yet another season as per the coaches’ plan,” said team coordinator Samson Otieno

The eleven add on to another six players who had rolling contracts. They include forward Vincent Jamaica Otieno and Rowland Makati, midfielders Elvis Noor Ojiambo and Ronney Kola, left-back Dennis Wanjala, and keeper Elvis Ochoro.

“With a core team still in place, the culture of the team remains as we restructure for the upcoming season. It is exciting to keep a majority of players as we tune ourselves for next season.” said head coach Nicholas Muyoti

Thirteen other players left the club at the wrap of last season: two by mutual consent, and the other eleven after running down their contracts.

Keeper Steve Njunge was forced out of the game with an injury as BlackStars grabbed the opening goal. He was replaced by former Kenya U20 call-up Elvis Ochoro.

Five minutes into the second half, City Stars went ahead through flyer Rodgers Okuse Okumu off a delivery from Dennis Decha Wanjala.

The game was to end even when, in the 97th minute, second-half substitute Don Bolo scored the leveling goal.

The two last faced off in early October 2021 at Ligi Ndogo. City Stars won it 3-0.

The quartet takes up the places of keeper Stephen Njunge, forward Augustine Kuta, stopper Edwin Buliba and injured midfielder Peter Opiyo who were all part of the trip to Mombasa a fortnight ago.

City Stars went down 1-0 in that game after conceding at the stroke of halftime.

Madoya one of four changes for Vihiga Bullets

Michael Madoya, defensive-mid Charles Chale Otieno, keeper Jacob Osano, and stopper Edwin Buliba, are the four changes made as Nairobi City Stars hit the road to take on Vihiga Bullets in Bukhungu, Kakamega, on Sunday 13 March 2022 starting 3 pm.

The four join another 16 who featured in the last game in Thika against Posta Rangers that City Stars lost 2-1.

Buliba, out for the last four league games, returns to take up the slot vacated by fellow stopper Kenedy Vidic Onyango who misses the game due to five yellow card accumulation.

Onyango was ruled out in City Stars’ last game in Thika after receiving a first-half yellow card, the fifth of the season.

Osano is back after two game days and his arrival hands youngster Elvis Ochoro a rest.

Madoya returns after missing the last three games to take up Rodgers Okuse Okumu’s place as Chale plugs into Dennis Decha Wanjala’s place.

Till the miss, Decha was the only player to have featured in all but just four minutes, 21 games into the current 2021/22 FKF Premier League season.

From the lot that faced Bullets in the first leg in Nairobi back in November 2021 in Ruaraka, winning 4-0, changes are five.

Other than defenders Onyango and Wanjala, midfielders Elvis Noor Ojiambo, John Kamau as well as strikers Ebrima Sanneh who had a pre-assist, and Ezekiel Odera who scored once, will be missing the reverse tie.

The vacancies created from the first leg squad are taken up by defenders Herit Mungai and Lennox Ogutu, midfielder Augustine Kuta, and strikers Nicholas Kipkirui and Erick Ombija.

It is the second time that City Stars will be traveling to face Bullets, but the first time since September 2019 during the second game of the 2019/20 second-tier season.

Subs Jamaica, Maloba turn it around against Vihiga Bullets
