Record win against Talanta dedicated to Kelvin Etemesi

Nairobi City Stars players have dedicated a record-breaking 3-0 win over FC Talanta registered during a matchday 17 tie in Ruaraka on Saturday 6 January 2024 to ailing forward Kelvin Etemesi.

Etemesi became sick during the December holidays and is yet to resume training this year.

According to team leader and skipper Calvin Masawa, the Saturday win, a record sixth on the trot for Simba wa Nairobi in 16 premier league seasons, goes to Etemesi.

“We dedicate the win to our jersey 20 Kelvin Etemesi who is currently sick. Our thoughts and prayers are with him,”

“As he recuperates, we want him to know he is part of us at Simba wa Nairobi, and when he is not with us we will share our earned achievements with him. We wish him a quick recovery.” said Masawa

During the game, a first-half goal by Mohammed Bajaber, and two others in the second-half by Robinson Asenwa and Samuel Kapen handed Simba wa Nairobi the first-ever home win over their stubborn foes in three attempts.

Simba wa Nairobi first registered five contiguous wins in the 2020/21 Premier League season between matchday 18 and 22.

The team matched that streak in December 2023 after seeing off Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in matchday 16, in what was the year-ender.

That was broken in the year-opener on Saturday in Ruaraka with the convincing 3-0 win over FC Talanta.

Newton Ochieng has been included in the 20-man squad to face FC Talanta during a matchday 17 FKF Premier League tie in Ruaraka on Saturday 6 January 2024 starting at 3 p.m.

Ochieng was last fielded in late October 2023 against Shabana in matchday seven where he picked up an injury. He returned for a matchday 13 game against Posta Rangers but sat out the last three games against Bandari, Ulinzi Stars, and Kakamega Homeboyz.

    Kelvin Etemesi to resume duty

After sitting out two league games due to suspension, lead Nairobi City Stars striker Kelvin Etemesi is keen to pick up from where he left off.

Etemesi was suspended at the onset of November 2023 after being carded in an away game against Muranga SEALS thereby missing games against AFC Leopards and Tusker.

“I have been out for two games that made me miss two important assignments,”

“I am now a changed man, but with the same goals. I aim to be back on the pitch, and to be back on the score sheet.” added Etemesi

Thus far, Etemesi, Simba wa Nairobi’s top scorer last season with 12 goals, currently leads the score charts with three goals and is tied with midfielder Vincent Owino.

He scored against Nzoia Sugar, Sofapaka, and KCB. He has three assists in games against Bidco, Sofapaka – where he was named man of the match and a place in the team of the week, and Shabana.
