Bageya leaves City Stars by mutual consent

Ugandan hitman Jimmy Bageya has left Nairobi City Stars by mutual consent ending his seventh stint with the club.

The offensive midfielder, at best on the left wing, leaves on a high having guided the club to promotion from the second tier after four seasons.

Bageya joined City Stars back in year 2009 and will be remembered for scoring the clubs first league goal after it was rechristened from World Hope (against AFC Leopards) at Hope Centre in February of that year while playing under German coach Oliver Page.

He would move away from City Stars on a few occasions to sample greener pastures but always made a return ‘home’ to City Stars.

“Jimmy intimated he had personal issues to attend to that were a hindrance to his optimal performance at the club hence the mutual agreement that we part ways,” said club CEO Patrick Korir

“He had very good experience and was our big game player. It therefore goes without saying that we wish him the very best as he addresses his immediate concerns so that he can focus on his future football challenge.” added Korir

In July 2019 he returned to City Stars for the sixth time in what turned out to be the final year in the National Super League (NSL), and guided the team to promotion with a contribution of five goals, one assist and two Man Of The Match (MOTM) accolades.

With 23 goals from 130 games across seven KPL seasons, Bageya was City Stars fourth best Premier League top scorer after Justus Basweti and Francis Thairu (27 goals) and Arthur Museve (25).

In October 2020 he signed a season-long contract to earn a place in the team for the seventh time.

In the current season, he featured in two games as a substitute against Bandari where he came out with an important assist, and against Vihiga United, to clock 132 Premier League games over eight seasons with City Stars.

Two changes have been effected from the 20-man squad that faced off with Vihiga United in the last round of games as Nairobi City Stars prepares to take on Wazito at Utalii Grounds on Sunday 3 January 2020 starting 3pm.

Defensive mid Charles Chale Otieno and winger John Bombay Kamau have been added to the list in place of wingers Jimmy Bageya and Rodgers Okumu who are unavailable for the tie.

While Chale will be looking for his premier League bow, Bombay, a former Tusker player, will be eying his premier league debut in Nairobi City Stars colors.

Save for the two changes, the rest of the lot remains as is.

Nairobi City Stars midfielder Sven Yidah was named to the starting eleven at the close of round five Premier League games played on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 24th December 2020.

Sven was unaccompanied in the 18-man team of the week from Nairobi City Stars who managed a 1-1 draw with Vihiga United at Utalii grounds to head to new year placed fifth on the log.

In that game, Sven scored the leveler, a header in the 48th minute off an Oliver Maloba cross to cancel out David Simiyu’s opening goal in the 42nd minute.

He could have ended the game with a hat trick had his header off a Jimmy Bageya cross not bounced off the upright and another effort just weaved wide.

Sven was named in midfield alongside Jackson Dwang from Posta Rangers and Michael Mutinda of KCB.

KCB’s Jacob Okoth was named the best keeper in the week alongside his defender David Owino, Daniel Sakari of Kariobangi Shaks, Nzoia Sugar’s Gabriel Wandera and Ulinzi’s Bonface Andayi.

In Week 3, where City Stars knocked out Bandari 2-0 at Kasarani, keeper Steve Njunge and center back Salim Shitu Abdalla were named to the team of the week.

In the same week Njunge was nominated as player of the year while head Coach Sanjin Alagic was nominated as coach of the week.

In week 1, skipper Anthony Kimani and Davis Agesa were in the team of the week as Oliver Maloba and keeper Steve Njunge made the bench.

    Teen Babu starts against Bandari

After two sub shows in the opening games against Nzoia Sugar and KCB, Laiser Hill Academy alumnus Timothy Noor Ouma aka Babu, will register his first Premier league start when Nairobi City Stars hosts Bandari at Kasarani on Friday 11th December 2020 starting 3pm.

Head coach Sanjin Alagic has trusted the promising teenager Babu to start out ahead of another teen Vincent Otieno Jamaica Okoth who was in the starting lineup against KCB. Jamaica will make the bench.

As Babu starts, his elder sibling Elvis Noor Ojiambo has dropped to the bench to gift Sven Yidah a first start for City Stars.

Save for those two starting changes, the rest of the starting cast remains as was against KCB

Anthony Muki Kimani wears the armband for a third straight game as he spearheads Simba wa Nairobi against his former club as Herit Mungai Atariza, Kenedy Onyango, Salim Abdalla and Azizi Okaka create the backline to shield keeper Steve Njunge.

Peter Pinchez Opiyo will play alongside Sven and Muki in midfield as tricky Oliver Maloba, Babu and Davis Agesa complete the attack line.

Jimmy Bageya, City Stars top scorer against Bandari with three goals (alongside retired Arthur Museve), headlines the bench power that also has overall team captain Calvin Masawa, utility back Edwin Buliba and roving winger Rodgers Okumu, both of whom made their KPL bow against KCB last Friday.

    Bageya in for Bandari clash

Experienced forward Jimmy Bageya has made the cut to face Bandari FC in a third round premier league clash set for Friday 11 December 2020 at Kasarani.

    Bageya missed the opening two games against Nzoia Sugar and KCB, and according to head coach Sanjin Alagic, this is why he was called in for the game;

“He has worked very hard and well in training this week and deserved to make the squad to face Bandari. He will start from the bench.” said Sanjin

He is the only addition to the 18-man squad that faced off with KCB in the last outing last.

With three goals, Bageya is City Stars top scorer against Bandari (alongside retired Arthur Museve)

Centre back Kenedy Onyango who had been ill for a few days after the KCB game was passed fit for the game.

Eric Ombija, injured in training ahead of the KCB game, and Wycliffe Otieno who picked a knock in the opener against Nzoia Sugar, will still sit out the Friday game.
