City Stars to host Bullets at Ruaraka

Ruaraka will host the first-ever Premier League meeting between Nairobi City Stars and promoted Vihiga Bullets on Saturday 6 November starting 3 pm.

There was a possibility of the fifth round game shifting to Hope Centre, Kawangware, to be played on Sunday 7 November, but that has since been shelved for another day.

“We had hoped to host the game at the Hope centre. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, Ruaraka, as originally planned, was maintained as the facility to host the Bullets game,” said club CEO Patrick Korir

“It’s been close to two years since City Stars played a league game at the Hope Centre due to the busy schedule of the venue,”

“We are now glad that the venue managers are receptive to our request to host games at the grounds as, over the years, that been regarded as the epicentre of Nairobi City Stars,”

“In due course, we will host some matches there and reconnect with our dear fans. In the meantime we urge them to come out and support us in the games that will be hosted in select venues across town,” urged Korir

City Stars last hosted a Premier Lague game at the Hope Centre – in hosting Mathare United – on 8 November 2014. The game ended 0-0.

An upcoming duel between Nairobi City Stars and Bidco United will be played at Camp Toyoyo, Jericho on Sunday 2 February 2020 starting 3pm.

The match 23 tie in the National Super League (NSL) was originally planned for Hope Centre, Kawangware but the surface is still not available for use following closure of the facility for renovation from December 2019.

Nairobi City Stars against Vihiga Bullets initially set for Sunday 19 January 2020 at Hope Centre, Kawangware has been forward by a day and will now be played on Saturday 18 January 2020 at the Camp Toyoyo, Jericho starting 3pm.

Shift of the round 21 National Super League (NSL) clash was necessitated by the unavailability of Hope Centre which was shut down for renovations in December 2019.

As per an official correspondence to all parties, the change of date and venue for the City Stars – Vihiga Bullets clash has since been ratified by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

“Kindly take note that the above-mentioned match has been rescheduled and the match shall now be played as follows; Match No. 207, Nairobi City Stars FC vs Vihiga Bullets FC – Saturday, 18th January 2020, 3:00 PM, Camp Toyoyo,”

    Samson Otieno, the City Stars team coordinator said;

“We had been informed late last year that Hope Centre will be reopened in mid-January in time for the Bullets game. But we have now been informed the surface still needs more time to regenerate and it will only be ready in February.”

The two sides last faced off in Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega in early September 2019. City Stars won it 2-1 thanks to a brace from Gambian striker Ebrima Sanneh.

City Stars vs Ushuru: Head to head records

Starting 3pm on Wednesday 13 November, 2019, Nairobi City Stars will host Ushuru FC at Hope Centre, Kawangware in a 14th round National Super League (NSL) tie.

The two teams have some commons; both got relegated from the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) at the close of the 2016 season and, for a fourth straight season, are searching for their premiership tag.

The upcoming game, the seventh while in the second tier NSL, will be a historic one as the two have never met at the Hope Centre.

Since their drop down, the two have met six times; five times at Camp Toyoyo and just once at Ruaraka in their last meeting in May 2019.

Goals at the extreme end of the Ruaraka game by Brian Yakhama and Barrack Odhiambo on either side of Noah Abichs’s sublime free kicks from the edge of the box ensured even-stevens as the two ended drawn 2-2.

All the scorers from that last encounter are expected to be paraded at the Hope Centre where City Stars will be searching for their first home win over Ushuru. In the past three games, the best Simba wa Nairobi has achieved is one draw with Ushuru registering two wins.

Last time round, City Stars was coached by John Amboko as Ushuru was in the hands of Ken Kenyatta.

Times have changed and Sanjin Alagic from Bosnia and Herzegovina is now in charge at City Stars as Leonard Odipo has since assumed the top role at Ushuru.
