Head-to-head: Police (H) vs Nairobi City Stars (A): 2022/23 FKF Premier League season

For only the second time in the Kenyan topflight, Kenya Police will host Nairobi City Stars during a 24th round FKF Premier League at the Police Sacco Stadium, South C, starting 3.15 p.m.

Police first hosted Simba wa Nairobi in Kasarani Annex back on 16 October 2023 during the second game of last season. They went on to lose the duel 2-0. Timothy Ouma and Ezekiel Odera scored the goals.

During that game, legendary John Bobby Ogola was the Police head coach, and he came up against Nicholas Muyoti who went on to post his first win as a City Stars coach.

It’s now a year and a half later after that game that Police are hosting City Stars once again,  and Muyoti will be up against another legend of the game; coach Francis Baraza.

Barry, as Baraza is fondly known, was in charge when the two sides last met in the league on 7 February 2023 in Kasarani Annex during the first leg of the current season.

Police canceled out a 1-0 first-half deficit from Odera’s goal with a quickfire response within a minute by Alvin Mang’eni for Police to come from behind and win it 2-1.

Heading to the mid-week game, City Stars tags along with a 3-2 loss to Posta Rangers suffered at the same venue on Easter Sunday, as Police parade a 0-0 draw against AFC Leopards registered on the same day in Nyayo Stadium.

On the log, Police sit sixth in the 18-team standings with 37 points, 17 clear of 16th-placed City Stars

The trio takes up the places of keeper Elvis Ochoro, defensive midfielder Ronney Kola, and striker Levis Okello who started the last game.

Save for the three changes, the other 17 players have all maintained their places in the squad.

Second-half substitute Kelvin Etemesi’s quickfire brace proved not enough for Nairobi City Stars as the team went down 3-2 to Posta Rangers in a historic matchday 23 FKF Premier League tie played at the Police Sacco Stadium on Sunday 9 April 2023.

Etemesi’s two goals in a five minutes blitz, the first in the 51st minute, canceled out a first-half brace by Brian Marita to tie the game at 2-2. Etemesi had replaced striker Levis Okello, who was making his first start alongside James Mazembe, at the onset of the second half.

In spite of that recovery, a long-range shot by Titus Echesa in the 79th minute, off a corner kick, slid off the far post to hand Posta Rangers the 3-2 win.

From the Sunday result, Simba wa Nairobi remains 16th on the log with 20 points as Posta moved to the tenth spot with 31 points.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is an away game against Kenya Police at the same Police Sacco Stadium on Wednesday 12 April 2023 starting at 3 p.m.

For the seventh time in the Kenyan Premier League, Nairobi City Stars will host Posta Rangers in a matchday 23 tie to be held at Police Sacco Stadium, South C, on Sunday 9 April 2023 starting 3 pm.

Save for the last game as host to Posta Rangers played at Thika Stadium on 9 Mar 2022, a game the visitors won 2-1, City Stars had drawn all previous five encounters in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2021.

Since the last home encounter in Thika in March last year, Posta has since replaced the man who was in charge then- Salim Ali – with John Kamau.

City Stars bench remains the same, with  Nicholas Muyoti still in charge.

Both teams come to the game on the back of defeats: City Stars with a 1-0 loss to KCB and Posta Rangers with a 2-0 loss to Homeboyz. Both losses happened at Kasarani Annex on 5 April.

Table wise, City Stars is 16th with 20-points, six behind 13th placed Posta Rangers.
