Edwin Buliba: Every game is a final

Defender Edwin Buliba is of the view that Nairobi City Stars will have a good finish in the current 2022/23 FKF Premier League and has the capability of claiming one of the uppers slots in the standings by season-end.

Buliba, a center-back but now plugging in as a right-back, spoke soon after the latest game against Tusker in Ruaraka where Simba wa Nairobi earned a vital point after holding defending champions Tusker to a 0-0 draw in Ruaraka.

    “My season had ups and downs. I had an injury setback but I came back stronger. I am enjoying lots of playtime, and I want to help the team do well in the final stretch of the season,” said Buliba before adding;

“I know the team has maturity now. We are now tackling each game as a final, and I believe we will finish in the top 10.”

Buliba has so far featured in 17 of the 28 games played this season, earning 1,511 minutes.

He clocked eight and nine games in the past two Kenyan Premier League seasons, respectively.

Just as was the case during the first leg in Bukhungu on 18 February, Nairobi City Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz posted another 0-0 draw, this time during a match day 27 FKF Premier League tie held in KAsarani Annex on Wednesday 26 April 2023.

City Stars had the best of chances early in the second half with James Mazembe and Kelvin Etemesi missing the best of chances while in the box.

Homeboyz smacked the poles twice in the second half and had the ball cleared off that line once.

But in the end, it was a point and clean sheet for each.

The earned point sent Simba wa Nairobi one position up from 15th to 14th with 27 points. Homeboyz is eight with 39 points.

Next up for City Stars is a duel with reigning champions Tusker on Wednesday 3 May 2023 in Ruaraka starting at 3 p.m.

Head-to-head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs Homeboyz (A): 2022/23 FKF Premier League season

Nairobi City Stars will, for only the fifth time since the year 2013, host Kakamega Homeboyz in the premier league, this time during a 27th-round tie in Kasarani Annex on Wednesday 26 April 2023 starting at 1 p.m.

It is the first time since 24th January 2022 that Simba wa Nairobi will be home to Abana Beingo.

In the last meeting, in Ruaraka, City Stars needed a late equalizer from Rodgers Okuse Okumu to cancel out substitute Gaetan Masha’s second-half goal for a share of the spoils as the game ended 1-1.

From the previous four home games against Homeboyz in Nairobi, City Stars has registered two wins, a loss, and the Ruaraka draw last year.

The most uncommon factor in the upcoming tie is that the two have never faced off at the Kasarani Annex.

Both teams come to the game on the back of two straight league wins. Homeboyz comes to the game with a 2-0 win over Vihiga Bullets while City Stars parades a 2-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks earned at the same venue on Saturday.

Once again, coach Nicholas Muoti will be leading Simba wa Nairobi against a Homeboz side that will be handled by Patrick Odhiambo.

Into the game, City Stars sits 15th in the 18-team log with 26 points, and are 12 points behind seventh-placed Homeboyz.
