Nairobi City Stars forward Robinson Asenwa grabbed a late consolation in Muranga as Nairobi City Stars went down 2-1 to the home team Muranga SEAL on Wednesday 1 November 2023 during a ninth-round 2023/24 FKF Premier League match.

The goal may have turned out to be a consolation, but it came with a world of meaning for Asenwa who was only playing his fourth Kenyan premiership match.

“It is exciting to score in the Kenyan premier league. It’s a dream come true. It has stirred me within and has made me believe that anything is possible,”

“It was my opening goal and deep down I believe there are many more from me to come. It made me believe that I can do it and I will now work extra hard to top up on it.” added the former Vapor Sport flyer

In the Muranga SEAL tie, Asenwa was introduced at the onset of the second half and went on to complete the game. He had previously made cameo appearances against Gor Mahia on his debut, Shabana, and KCB.

Substitute Robinson Asenwa’s maiden Premier League goal late in the second half was not enough as Nairobi City Stars went down 2-1 to Muranga SEAL during a ninth-round 2023-24 FKF Premier League match.

Asenwa, on for Mohammed Bajaber at halftime, was teed up by another substitute Andrew Kisilu for what turned out to be a consolation in the 80th minute.

Muranga SEAL scored within the first ten minutes off a rebound through Titus Kapchanga, and doubled matters three minutes after the hour mark. Both goals came off blunders at the back.

City Stars ended up a man short after lead striker Kelvin Etemesi saw a straight red in the 5th minute for a stretched elbow. He had been yellow-carded earlier in the first half.

While Muranga SEAL moved to the 17-point mark to solidify a top-three placing, Simba wa Nairobi dropped to 13th still holding on to nine points.

Head-to-head: Muranga SEAL (H) vs Nairobi City Stars (A): 2023/24 FKF Premier League season

A historic clash is up in the air when Simba wa Nairobi lands in Muranga for a showdown against home team Muranga SEAL in a ninth-round 2023-24 FKF Premier League match at St. Sebastian Park on Wednesday 1 November 2023 starting at 3 p.m.

Never has City Stars set foot in Muranga for a game, and never have the two sides met in the Kenyan topflight, ever.

As a matter of fact, the two teams have only faced off just once before – on 18 November 2019 in Camp Toyoyo during a 15th-round clash in the second tier, National Super League during the 2019/20 season. It ended 0-0.

City Stars never visited Muranga that season for a round 34 reverse tie as the NSL season – as well as all leagues- was interrupted by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

It is however worth pointing out that, during the last two preseasons, the two sides have met in friendly games.

Heading to the game, City Stars is reeling from a 4-1 defeat against KCB at the weekend while Muranga SEAL parades a 1-1 away draw against Muhoroni Youth.

Touch-line-wise, the home team will be overseen by former Nairobi City Stars coach Gabriel Kingi Njoroge who will be up against Nicholas Muyoti. The two will come face-to-face for the first time in the top flight.

Table-wise, Muranga SEAL is fourth on the log with 14 points, with a five-point buffer over City Stars who are down at the 12th spot.
