    Edwin Mukolwe reviews past season

Goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe reckons, in retrospect, that he, as well as Nairobi City Stars, had a descent outing in the ended 2023-24 FKF Premier League season.

Simba wa Nairobi was for large spells in the top five towards the end of the first leg all through to the final set of games then dropped to end up a respectable sixth with half a century of points from 34 outings.

“I had a fairly good season with the team, a group of very hard working mates who did their best,”

“We were able to achieve some good wins, played some good football too, and also had some rough days for learning. That said, I look forward to an even better 2024/2025 season.” he added

Mukolwe made 26 appearances – all full games – on his debut season with City Stars to earn 2,340 regular time minutes. He registered ten clean sheets.

He was named team MVP for his heroics on five different occasions after games against Bandari in the first leg on matchday 14, and four times in the second leg against Shabana in match day 20, Kariobangi sharks where he saved a penalty in matchday 23, against FC Talanta where he saved two penalties in matchday 27, and against Sofapaka in match day 33.

Mukolwe made it to the Team of the Week on three different occasions; in matchday 14 against Bandari, matchdays 26 and 27 against Muranga SEAL, and Kariobangi Sharks, respectively.

Mukolwe was named the Fans player of the week after his heroics on matchday 27.

On Saturday 2 March 2024, Nairobi City Stars visited Kariobangi Sharks in a matchday 23, 2023-24 FKF Premier League match in Police Sacco Stadium, and forced a 0-0 draw.

The outcome of the game could have been different but Simba wa Nairobi goalkeeper pulled of a massive coup on Sharks attempt to win the game by saving a Johnmark Makata penalty with just about ten minutes of play left.

In saving that spot kick, and topping up on other daring saves in the first half, Mukolwe went on to be named man of the match for a second time this season.

He talked up the immediate past game, and the plot in the upcoming one against his immediate former team Bidco United.

“It was a good push from the team. We wanted maximum points but are grateful for the point. Focus now shifts to the next assignment against Bidco United where we hope to bounce back to winning ways. We aim to improve day by day, one game at a time,”

Prior to the Sharks clash, City Stars had gone down 1-0 to reigning champions Gor Mahia in Machakos the previous weekend.

“Against Sharks, the boys gave a good account of themselves, bouncing back from that disappointing loss,” added Mukolwe

Mukolwe, in his first season with Simba wa Nairobi, has so far featured in half of the games this season – 17 – on his way to clocking 1,530 regular time minutes.

He has twice been named MVP – against Bandari in matchday 14 apart from the recent one against Sharks, and has eight clean sheets to his name.

In matchday 14, Mukolwe made it to the team of the week.

It ended 0-0 on Saturday 2 March 2024 when Kariobangi Sharks hosted Nairobi City Stars in a matchday 23, 2023-24 FKF Premier League tie at the Police Sacco Stadium.

The tie could have taken a twist in favor of Sharks in the 79th minute but it was not to be after Simba wa Nairobi keeper Edwin Mukolwe saved a point blank penalty by John Mark Makwata.

The spot kick was awarded after right back Rowland Makati was adjudged to have handled a swerving ball that headed wide at the far post.

Mukolwe, who had some massive saves in the first half, was later named the most valuable player after the match.

With a point earned, City Stars moved two places up from sixth to fourth on the 18-team log with a new tally of 38 points.

Sharks on their part maintained 15th spot with a new collection of 24 points.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is a home game against Bidco United on Saturday 9 March 2023 in Machakos starting at 1 pm.

The return of skipper Calvin Masawa is one of three major changes made to the Simba wa Nairobi squad set to face champions Gor Mahia on Saturday 17 February 2024 in Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos starting from 4 p.m.

Masawa is back for the matchday 22 tie after serving a two-match suspension following a straight red card in a recent game against AFC Leopards in Bukhungu, Kakamega.

Masawa will be joined in the squad by newcomers Byron Owino and defensive midfielder Shem Odinga who both joined the club in the ended mid-window from Kibera Black Stars and Kibera Angels, respectively.

Falling off the squad that saw off Bandari 1-0 in Mombasa in the immediate past league game are goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe and midfielder Elvis Noor due to caution suspensions, as well as flyer Pius Omachi who takes a rest.

Abuyeka Kubasu and Gilbert Abala who made the Bandari trip retain their places in the team, as well as recent signing Rogers Obusu who makes the cut for a third straight match.
