After sleeping over on Saturday with a ten-point cushion, Nairobi City Stars advantage atop the National Super League (NSL) dropped down to seven points following games played on Sunday 19 January 2020.

City Stars ends Bidco’s fine run

Visiting Nairobi City Stars brought Bidco United’s three game winning start to a rude ending after squeezing in a 1-0 win at the Thika Stadium on Wednesday 18 September 2019 during a round four National Super League (NSL) match.

Gambian striker Ebrima Sanneh was at the right place at the right time to tap home the lone goal in the 32nd minute for his fourth goal in as many games.

Teenager Vincent ‘Jamaica’ Otieno, an off season signing from Hakati Sportiff, did the donkey work on the right of goal to provide a low teasing ball into the box for the unmarked Sanneh.

Bidco regrouped well for the second half and did everything to find a way out but were thwarted time and again by City Stars keeper Levis Opiyo whom they failed to beat on all occasions. Levis was eventually named man of the match.

Against Bidco, Davis Agesa stepped up to start in place of Jimmy Bageya who was pronounced ill just before the game as Oliver Maloba, David Gateri and ‘Jamaica’ picked up their first starts of the season.

Left back Wesley Onguso started the game, for his debut, when he benched skipper Calvin Masawa thereby shifting the arm band to midfielder Anthony Muki Kimani.

After the Bidco win, City Stars went above their foes to sit second on the log with ten points to sit just behind Nairobi Stima on goal difference. Stima drew 0-0 with Ushuru in Naivasha.

Next up for City Stars is an away game to Coast Stima in Mombasa on Monday 23 September 2019.
