    Club Statement: Free agents after the 2021/22 season

    Nairobi City Stars wishes to announce that, following the expiry of contracts, a number of key players who did duty for the club up until the close of the 2021/22 FKF Premier League season, are now free agents.

    The list includescentral defenders Salim Shitu Abdalla and Wycliffe Otieno, who both joined the club at the start of the 2019/20 National Super League (NSL) season.

    Defensive midfielder Charles Otieno Oduro and forward Davis Agesa who both joined the club in the year 2017 have also run down their contracts.

    The list also includes striker Erick Ombija and flyer Rodgers Okuse Okumu who joined the club at the start of the 2020/21 FKF Premier League season.

    Striker Nicholas Kipkirui who joined in March 2021, and Michael Madoya who arrived at the start of the 2021/22 season, are also free agents.

    Adding to the list is left-footed utility John Kamau who re-joined the club in January 2020, as well as forward Augustine Kuta who arrived on a short-term contract in January 2022.

    Further, the club can confirm that central defender Lennox Ogutu, and right back Kevin Chumsy Okumu have, after completing a season into their three-year and two-year contracts, respectively, left Simba wa Nairobi on mutual consent to explore other interests.

    Defensive-mid Sven Yidah also ran down his contract and has since crossed borders to seek a place in South African top-tier side Marumo Gallants.

    “Shitu, Chumsy, Wycliffe, Charles, Agesa, and Kamau will always be remembered for being part of the team that guided City Stars to Premier League promotion in 2020 while Ombija, Okuse, Sven, Kipkirui, Madoya, Lennox, and Kuta receive a pat on the back for making Simba wa Nairobi a stable team in the big boys league.

    ‘Shitu’, Kuta return for Leopards clash

    Stopper Salim Shitu Abdala and forward Augustine Kuta are among four changes made as Nairobi City Stars shape up for a 33rd round FKF Premier League tie against AFC Leopards in Thika Stadium on Monday 6 June 2022 starting 3 pm.

    Shitu returns after missing the last game against Gor Mahia as Kuta makes a re-entry to the squad after sitting out two games.

    Other than Shitu and Kuta, in for Wycliffe Otieno and Nicholas Kipkirui respectively, the other two changes include the return of winger John Kamau and defensive-mid Charles Otieno.

    Both Charles and Kamau return after missing the Gor Mahia, and are in for Michael Madoya and Davis Agesa.

    From the squad that featured in the first leg in Nyayo Stadium in early January 2022, changes are five.

    Other than Agesa, Madoya, and Kipkirui, others that won’t feature in the upcoming game include Oliver Maloba and keeper Stephen Njunge.

    Kuta, midfielders Rowland Makati, Elvis Noor Ojiambo, forward Mohammed Bajaber, and keeper Elvis Ochoro have taken up their slots.

    Friendly Fire: Wins over Young Shines, Karima United

    Nairobi City Stars registered two straight wins over Young Shines (3-0) and Nyeri -based Karima United (7-0) in their traditional mid-week friendly games at Ngong Vapor, on Wednesday 25 May 2022.

    Head coach Nicholas Muyoti used the two games to prep up for the upcoming matchday 32 FKF Premier League game against Gor Mahia on Sunday 29 May 2022.

    Augustine Kuta scored within seconds off a Mohammed Bajaber feed for an early-minute lead.

    Quickfire goals in the 20th and 22nd minutes by Davis Agesa and Bajaber, off a penalty and pass from Kuta, had Simba wa Nairobi 3-0 up.

    It was 5-0 a minute after the half-hour mark when Agesa completed his brace off Rowland Makati’s pass. Four minutes earlier, Makati scored the fourth off an assist from Vincent Otieno.

    In the second half, guest players took center stage as Alex Ogwino and Pius Omachi added two more goals in the 51st and 64th minutes, off assists from Briton Mwema and Daniel Odhiambo.

    Against Young Shines S.A, Nicholas Kipkirui scored a brace in the 50th and 70th minutes after picking up an interception and after pouncing on a rebound off a Timothy Ouma effort.

    Odera, Kamau in for KCB clash

    The entry of striker Ezekiel Odera and winger John Kamau are the two changes made as Nairobi City Stars look ahead to their next FKF Premier League game against KCB in Kasarani on Saturday 21 May 2022 starting 3 pm.

    Odera, City Stars’ current top scorer with eight goals, missed the previous Tusker game due to accumulated yellow card suspension and is back to face his former employer KCB, while Kamau makes a comeback after sitting out the last two games against Wazito and Tusker.

    The two take up the places of Augustine Kuta and Charles Otieno who are rested for the tie, while the other 18 players retain their slots.

    Compared to the squad that faced KCB in the first leg in mid-December 2021, and lost 1-0 in Ruaraka, changes made are seven.

    Keeper Stephen Njunge, stopper Lennox Ogutu, midfielders Oliver Maloba, Charles Otieno, Rowland Makati, forwards Davis Agesa, and Vincent Otieno Okoth, are all out.

    They have been replaced by keeper Elvis Ochoro, defenders Kevin Okumu, Salim Abdallah, Kenedy Onyango, and Wycliffe Otieno, and midfielder Mohammed Bajaber.

    Striker Nicholas Kipkirui, who was named to face KCB in December, only to be replaced on the morning of the game by John Kamau due to illness, is the final change.

    Friendly Fire: Midweek wins over Nkoroi, Oserian Youth FC

    Nairobi City Stars registered a 2-0 and 4-2 wins over win over Nkoroi FC and Oserian Youth, respectively, in friendly games played at Ngong Vapor on Wednesday 11 May 2022.

    Against Nkoroi, Mohammed Bajaber, who made the squad for a premier league for once on Monday, had City Stars up by a goal within the first two minutes off an assist from Dan Otieno. Herit Mungai then doubled the scores eleven minutes into the second half of a Frederick Inganzi pass.

    Against Oserian, Charles Otieno opened the scores in the sixth minute off a Kevin Okumu assist before Bonface Abuti leveled six minutes later.

    Augustine Kuta then sent City Stars ahead in the 41st minute from a Mike Madoya assist for a 2-1 halftime lead. Madoya then made it 3-1 in the 55th minute off a John Kamau delivery.

    Elijah Oduor reduced the deficit for Oserian at the hour mark before Dan Otieno, on for Nicholas Kipkirui at halftime, added the fourth of a Kuta cross.

    The two games helped the team prepare for an upcoming round 30 FKF Premier League game on Sunday 15 May 2022 against champions Tusker FC in Ruaraka starting 3 pm.
