Makati one of three changes against Police

Midfielder Rowland Babu Makati is back in the City Stars squad for the first time since mid-December 2021 as the team preps for a game against Kenya Police in Ruaraka on Sunday 1 May 2022 starting 3 pm.

Makati made the squad once last year and was an unused substitute against KCB in Ruaraka. He returns for only the second time in one of three changes made for the game.

Other than Makati, stopper Edwin Buliba also makes the squad after missing league action the entire month of April, as well as John Kamau who returns after missing the last game against Sofapaka.

The trio takes up the places of field skipper Anthony Muki Kimani who saw red in the last game against Sofapaka, forward Davis Agesa, and right-back Kevin Chumsy Okumu who was ruled out with a thigh injury.

Nairobi City Stars 0 Sofapaka 2

Visiting Sofapaka scored two second-half goals to hit hosts Nairobi City Stars 2-0 in a 27th round FKF Premier League game in Ruaraka on Saturday 23 April 2022.

A penalty by Sofapaka skipper Lawrence Juma in the 50th minute, earned after skipper Calvin Masawa brought down Titus Achesa and a follow-up goal by the same Achesa ten minutes later, off a cross by substitute Ambrose Sifuna, completed Sofapaka’s double over Simba wa Nairobi.

In between the two goals, City Stars were dealt a massive blow after midfielder Anthony Muki Kimani was slapped with a straight red card for an alleged off-the-ball elbow on Joe Waithira.

The first half had ended in silence as both sides were cautious of each other but it is Sofapaka that changed the tide of the game with the arrival of the trio of Waitihira, Imbusia, and Ojunga.

Despite being a man down, City Stars, hosting Sofapaka for the tenth time in the topflight, made forays upfront and should have been level five minutes after conceding only for David Otieno to put his body on the line to stop a Maloba drive in the box.

This is after Nicholas Kipkirui, Rodgers Okuse Okumu and Davis Agesa came on for Calvin Masawa, Timothy Ouma, and skipper Calvin Masawa, in that order. The armband then moved to stopper Kenedy Onyango.

Substitute Okuse had three chances in the box but spurned all as Herit Mungai had a near miss off a freekick in the dying minutes.

Even in defeat, City Stars remained third with 45 points, as Sofapaka improved to the top ten with 33 points.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is a home game against Kenya Police in Ruaraka on Sunday 1 May 2022 starting 3 pm.

Sofapaka will be guests to Nairobi City Stars during an FKF Matchday 27 tie in Ruaraka on Saturday 23 April 2022 starting 3 pm.

City Stars has hosted Sofapaka nine times before in the premier league and registered three wins, as many losses, and three draws.

Nicholas Muyoti, beaten in his first assignment that game as coach of Simba wa Nairobi, is still in charge.

Heading to the game, City Stars carries a draw and win over Ulinzi Stars as Sofapaka comes to the party with back-to-back 1-1 draws over log leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.

Table-wise, City Stars sits third with 45 points as Sofapaka comes in 12th with 30 points.

Stopper Otieno in, duo back for Sofapaka clash

Three changes have been made to the City Stars team that saw off Ulinzi Stars 1-0 on Easter Monday ahead of the upcoming FKF Premier League tie against Sofapaka on Saturday 23 April 2022 starting 3 pm in Ruaraka.

Attacking midfielder Timothy Noor Ouma aka Babu returns after sitting out the last game due to yellow card suspension as well as offensive midfielder Augustine Kuta who took a rest from the Easter match.

Making the squad for the first time this season is stopper Wycliffe Wiked Otieno who has been out of league action since mid-August 2021 due to a dislocated ankle suffered at the same venue while playing Mathare United.

Otieno has since recuperated fully and has finally found a chance to book his first topflight game in the current campaign.

Otieno takes up the place of Salim Shitu Abdallah who was injured in the last game and failed to go past the first half, as Babu and Kuta come on for unavailable John Kamau and Charles Otieno.
