MD12: Nairobi City Stars 1 Wazito 0

Samuel Kapen’s header in the 25th minute off a corner is all Nairobi City Stars needed to see off Wazito 1-0 during a match day 12 FKF Premier League tie in Ruaraka on Wednesday 25 January 2023.

Etemesi, in just his third premier league start, took a back-to-back corner and floated it well for stopper Kenedy Onyango to flick on the path of Kapen who made no mistake as he beat Wazito keeper and skipper Ezekiel OWade with the decider, his fourth goal of the season.

The descent Wazito had numerous chances of their own but Simba wa Nairobi stayed compact after the goal to register a second straight 1-0 win at the same venue within four days.

With the win, City Stars improves to eleven points in the process rising up a position to 14th as Wazito remains 16th with seven points.

Next up for City Stars is an away trip to Mombasa to face Bandari at the KPA Mbaraki grounds on Sunday 28 January 2023 starting 3 pm.

Head-to-head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs Wazito (A): 2022-23 FKF Premier League season

Nairobi City Stars will host Wazito on Wednesday 25 January 2023 in a twelfth-round FKF Premier League tie in Ruaraka grounds starting at 3 pm.

City Stars hosted the same side in Thika in October 2021 during a third-round game and went on to win 3-1 erasing a double loss against the same side the previous season.

It will only be the third time that City Stars will be hosting Wazito in the top flight since the 2020 season.

While Simba wa Nairobi still has coach Nicholas Muyoti in charge, Wazito will be led to the pitch by Jeffers Odongo.

Into the game, City Stars sits 15th in the 18-team log with eight points, and are a position and point above the visiting Wazito.

Simba wa Nairobi heads to the game on the high of a 1-0 win over Mathare United picked from Ruaraka last Sunday while Wazito comes to town on the back of a 1-0 home loss to Kakamega Homeboyz.

One change against Wazito

Peter Pinchez Opiyo has been included in the 20-man squad to face Wazito in the upcoming FKF Premier League matchday 12 set for Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday 25 January 2023 starting 3 pm.

Muganda eager to play again

Stopper Timothy Muganda is anxious following a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.

The former Soy United and Mara Sugar center-back was active during the pre-season and featured in 13 of 18 games, including all five in the inaugural Elite Pre-season Cup where City Stars made it all the way to the final, but has not featured for Simba wa Nairobi since the league kicked off in late November 2022.

Muganda is now at the tail-end of rehab and will soon be allowed back to full training, according to team physio Brian Odongo.

“I have been out for a while but I am now fit and ready to get back to the field,”

“I can’t wait to sample the premier league, but more so, to help the team achieve positive results,” said Muganda

Due to his injury setback, Muganda is the only player from City Stars’ 26-man list that is yet to make it to a matchday squad.
