‘Muki’ picks up first coaching certificate

Nairobi City Stars midfielder Anthony Muki Kimani was handed his CAF ‘D’ License Coaching Diploma certificate in Dagoretti on Friday 24 January 2023 after completing a ten-day course.

The elated Muki attended the two-week course while recuperating from an injury suffered during a recent premier league game against Mathare United.

“It’s been a great experience going through that coaching class,” said Muki before adding; “active players should find time and jump on these classes to open up the path to a smooth transition to the technical bench once their career comes to an end,”

Muki follows in the footsteps of Simba wa Nairobi stalwart Peter Pinchez Opiyo who acquired a similar certification back in January 2023.

With the certificate now safely secured, Muki, now fully recovered, can now focus on playing once again after missing the last six league games against Wazito, KCB, Bandari, Gor Mahia, Kenya Police, and Ulinzi Stars.

Nairobi City Stars forward Samuel Kapen during a league game against KCB on Wed 22 Jan 2023 in Kasarani Annex.

Samuel Kapen: So far so good

Flyer Samuel Kapen is confident that Nairobi City Stars will rise up and end the season in the upper part of the 18-team league come season-end.

The flyer, who joined Simba wa Nairobi in the offseason from Kibera Black Stars, is City Stars’ top scorer with four goals. He is keen to append his goal haul in the second half of the season for the betterment of the team.

“The season has been good so far and it has been a whole new experience since I joined Nairobi City Stars,”

“I want to score more goals and provide more assists, and help the team to finish in a ht etop five as I believe tit is very possible,” said Kapen

With just a game to spare before the first leg ends, Kapen has missed just two games due to injury; trips to Nzoia Sugar in Sudi, and the latest one against Kakamega Homeboyz in Bukhungu.

He has featured in the other 14 games and he attributes his consistency is due to the influence and push of fellow players.

“My teammates have helped me to blend well in the team by encouraging me, and urging me on to do my best,” he added

So far, Kapen has managed 13 starts and eight complete games on his way to registering 1,139 minutes in his first season at Simba wa Nairobi.
