Nairobi City Stars left-back Timothy Bolton Omwenga has been recalled to the Kenya National team – Harambee Stars, abeit the provisional list, – for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers set to be played between September and November 2021.
Omwenga is one of 36 players called to the squad by head coach Jacob Ghost Mulee for the assignments that start off with a home game against Uganda on Thursday 2 September 2021 and an away game to Rwanda three days later.
According to a release letter from the Federation, Bolton and Company are required to report for residential camp on Tuesday 24th August, two days after the last set of league games, to kick start preps for the upcoming games.
Bolton is one of three left-backs called in other than Siraj Mohammed of Bandari and regular Erick Ouma who turns out for Swedish top tier side AIK.
“It feels good to be recalled to the national team. I thank the Nairobi City Stars Technical bench, my teammates for making it happen. I am looking forward to playing for Kenya once again and I will keep working hard to get more call-ups.” said Bolton
Bolton last featured for the National team in June 2018 at the four-nation InterContinental Cup held in India where the hosts came out tops leaving Kenya to settle for Silver.
At the tournament he featured in games against Chinese Taipei and New Zealand and twice against hosts India.
Prior to that tournament, Bolton had featured in games against Malawi and Swaziland in Apr 2017 and May 2018, respectively.
In March 2018, he featured in two friendly games – with Kenya U23 – against home team Uzbekistan at the Istiqlal Stadium.
Kenya will be seeking the sole ticket from group E, alongside Mali, Rwanda and Uganda, to make it to the third round of the competition.
