    Ochoro, Ochieng back for KCB duel

    Goalkeeper Elvis Ochoro and midfielder Newton Ochieng are back in the Nairobi City Stars squad, this time for matchday ten 2022-23 FKF Premier League tie against KCB in Kasarani Annex on Wednesday 18 January 2023.

    The duo was last named to the team in mid-December 2022 and traveled to Sudi, Bungoma to face Nzoia United during matchday five but injury kept them out of games six to nine.

    Ochoro takes up the place of fellow keeper Stephen Njunge as Newton is in for Mohammed Bajaber who limped out of the last tie against Sofapaka injured.

    All other 18 players who were named for the Sofapaka tie maintained their places.

    Etemesi, Masawa return for Nzoia trip

    Forward Kelvin Etemesi and fullback Calvin Masawa are two of four changes made as Nairobi City Stars plot for host team Nzoia Sugar in a fifth-round 2022-23 FKF Premier League tie in Sudi Stadium on Saturday 17 December 2022 starting 3 pm.

    The two are joined in the traveling squad by goalkeeper Stephen Njunge and flyer Daniel Dante Odhiambo.

    Etemesi, a topflight debutant in the season-opener against Bidco United, missed out on the last three games against Tusker, FC Talanta, and Posta Rangers, while Masawa and Njunge missed out on selection in the last two ties. Dante was rested in the last one against Rangers.

    Etemesi is in to replace Ronney Kola, while Odhiambo takes up the place of winger Samuel Kapen. Masawa is in for Herit Mungai as Njunge takes up the place of fellow keeper Jacob Osano.

    Osotsi among three changes for Talanta clash

    Six-foot-four stopper Elly Kessy Osotsi is in line for his top-flight debut after being named in the 18-man squad to face FC Talanta in a third-round 2022/23 FKF Premier League match in Ruaraka on Sunday 4 December 2022 starting 3 pm.

    Other than centreback Osotsi, formerly of Kangemi All-Stars, left-back Dennis Decha Wanjala, and goalkeeper Elvis Ochoro made the squad for the first time this season.

    The trio takes up the places of right and left fullback Calvin Masawa, defensive mid-cum-stopper Ronney Kola, and goalkeeper Stephen Njunge who were part of the last squad that lost to Tusker at the same venue last Sunday.

    While Masawa and Kola featured in the game, Njunge made the bench.

    Keeper Stephen Njunge saved three post-match penalties on Thur 29 September 2022 in Kasarani Annex as Nairobi City Stars edged out Elite Pre-season Cup hosts Karibangi Sharks 3-2 on post-match penalties to advance to the finals set for Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

    The game ended 2-2 in regulation time forcing the post-game lottery kicks. City Stars had romped to a 2-0 lead inside nine minutes when Vincent Jamaica Otieno registered a quick-fire brace in the 16th and 26th minutes after getting to the end of Samuel Kapeni’s crosses from the right wing.

    Kapeni picked Jamaica out when he pounced on a pinpoint delivery from skipper Elvis Noor Ojiambo to square the ball on the path of Jamaica who sneaked between skipper Kevin Luke Otiala and Dan Guya to tap home the first.

    Three minutes later, Kapeni brought it high and Jamaica glanced it against the undersigned of the crossbar and into the goal. Newton Toni Ochieng, for safety purposes, made sure he rammed it against the net to confirm the goal.

    Sharks however turned the game around in the second half capitalizing on non-effective substitutions by City Stars.

    On 76 minutes they had a goal after skipper Otiala scored from the penalty spot. Tyson Otieno, who earned the penalty leading to the first goal, leveled matters six minutes later capitalizing on a spilled ball by Njunge.

    In the penalties, Ezekiel Odera started it off well with a goal before Otiala saw his stopped by Njunge.

    Anthony Kimani smacked his take against the woodwork as Sharks leveled with a clean one from Paul Odhiambo.

    It stayed level at 2-2 in the next round when Mohammed Hamudi Bajaber’s conversion was canceled out by Geoffrey Onyango’s. Samuel Kapeni and Kevin Wanyanga failed to score in the next set and in the final one, big Kenedy Vidic Onyango scored for City Stars as Fortune Omoto had his saved by Njunge who fully atoned for his goof that led to the equalizing regular time goal for it to end 3-2.

    Up next for City Stars will be a final tie against Kenya Police who edged out Bidco United 1-0 in the second semi-final. The tie will be played at Nyayo Stadium from 3 pm.

    The two sides met during the opening Pool ‘B’ clash in the tournament and it ended all square at 1-1.

  • Eleven players re-up their contracts for the new season

    Eleven players re-up their contracts for the new season

    Eleven players have renewed their contracts and will stay on at Nairobi City Stars for the upcoming 2022/23 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League season.

    Goalkeepers Jacob Osano and Steve Njunge, stoppers Kenedy Vidic Onyango and Edwin Buliba, fullbacks Calvin Masawa and Herit Mungai, are some of the players who re-upped their contracts.

    Midfielders Peter Pinchez Opiyo, Anthony Muki Kimani, and Oliver Maloba are also staying on for another season.

    Forwards Mohammed Bajaber who was on loan in the last half of last season from Starfield Academy is in for another season, as well as record-chasing scorer Ezekiel Odera.

    “All the eleven players had run down their contracts at the close of last season but we are happy that they agreed to stay on for yet another season as per the coaches’ plan,” said team coordinator Samson Otieno

    The eleven add on to another six players who had rolling contracts. They include forward Vincent Jamaica Otieno and Rowland Makati, midfielders Elvis Noor Ojiambo and Ronney Kola, left-back Dennis Wanjala, and keeper Elvis Ochoro.

    “With a core team still in place, the culture of the team remains as we restructure for the upcoming season. It is exciting to keep a majority of players as we tune ourselves for next season.” said head coach Nicholas Muyoti

    Thirteen other players left the club at the wrap of last season: two by mutual consent, and the other eleven after running down their contracts.
