    Wasega back for Bandari test

    Kenya U20 International Rodgers Wasega is back in the City Stars squad to take on Bandari on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Machakos during a matchday eleven tie starting at 4 pm.

    Wasega missed out on recent squad selections but is now back to replace Mohammed Bajaber who drops out of the squad for the first time this season due to personal reasons.

    Other than Wasega, there’s only one other change as Robinson Asenwa swaps places with flyer Gilbert Abala in the 18-man squad.

    The two had traded places in the last game against Mathare United.

    Buliba, Owino return for Tusker clash

    The entry of defender Edwin Buliba and midfielder Vincent Owino for the upcoming FKF Premier league matchday nine against Tusker FC in Machakos on Saturday, 23 November, 2024, starting at 1pm, are the most notable changes from the squad that last played Shabana a fortnight ago

    Buliba and Owino made the smaller 18-man squad for the upcoming game that saw a total o four players drop out rom the expanded 20-man squad in the last trip to Shabana in Kisii.

    Buliba returned to the backline that sees centre back Brian Opinde and let back Rogers Wasega drop out, as Owino enters a midfield that sees midfielder James Ssemambo, and flyer Gilbert Abala miss out.

    Owino missed Simba wa Nairobi’s last two wins over Gor Mahia and Shabana as he was representing Kenya in the preliminary round of the African Nation Championship qualifiers against South Sudan.

    Trio return for Shabana tie

    After missing out the game against Gor Mahia last Monday 28 Oct 2024, flyer Andre Kalama left back Rodgers Wasega, and defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma are back in the squad to face Shabana in a matchday eight tie on Sunday 3 November, 2024 at Gusii Stadium, Kisii, starting at 2 p.m.

    While Ouma was out due to National team duty in Juba, Kalama and Wasega missed out on the 18-man squad that faced Gor Mahia and picked a 2-1 win for the first win of the season.

    Of the 18 players that featured in that game, there is only one change after the exit of Centre back cum right back Edwin Buliba who was ejected due to a red card after accumulating two yellow cards.

    The rest of the squad remains as is.

    Rogers Wasega shares gains from CECAFA U20 Championship

    Budding left back cum winger Rogers Wasega has come forward to praise the CECAFA U20 Championship that recently concluded in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

    In the tourney, Kenya U20 scooped silver, and qualified for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations to be held sometimes next year becoming the first ever Kenyan age-grade side to achieve the fete.

    At the event, Wasega earned his junior cap during Kenya’s opener against Tanzania on 6 October, 2024.

    He went on to feature in another five games against Rwanda, Djibouti, Sudan in the group stages, in the semis against Burundi, and in the final against Tanzania where Kenya emerged first runners up.

    Prior to travel, while at camp in Kenya he said: “I learned to keep working harder”

    And after Kenya’s historic achievement he said:

    “It was a nice experience being my first international tournament,”

    “I gained some experience from playing all matches and I bet the next call callup I’ll step in with more confidence,” he added

    Wasega has now trained his sights on the upcoming league games, and the junior U20 African diadem.

    “It’s now time to refocus to the league where I aim to earn as many matches as possible to build my game,”

    “That will enable me present the experience from the tournament and put me in good stead as I aim for a place in the squad when the U20 Africa Cup of Nations arrives next year.” he concluded

    Prior to heading out to Tanzania for the CECAFA Championship, Wasega had only earned one Kenyan Premier league game, Simba wa Nairobi’s season opener against Bidco United in Dandora.

    There will be two notable changes from the squad that opened the season against Bidco United last weekend when City Stars takes on Mara Sugar in matchday three on Saturday 21 Sept 2024 in Awendo starting at 3 p.m.

    Two left backs Rogers Wasega who made a full debut against Bidco, and newcomer Stephen Bulugu are all out of the travelling squad and their places have been snapped up by new defender Brian Opinde and defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma.

    Wasega recently earned a callup to the Kenya U20 team preparing for CECAFA duty in a fortnight and has been given time off to prepare for camp from Sunday.

    A slight injury has kept Bulugu out therefore giving a chance to Ouma to make the trip.

    Save for the two changes, the other 18 players all maintained their places in the squad.
