Early second-half goals by Kelvin Etemesi and Samuel Kapen – their seventh goals of the season – were enough to lead Nairobi City Stars to a 2-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks in Kasarani Annex on Saturday 22 April 2023 during a matchday 26 FKF Premier League tie.

Etemesi activated the scoresheet in the 57th minute after getting to the end of a quick freekick by James Mazembe with a lob over keeper Peter Ouru.

Kapen doubled the scores in the 66th minute with a header off a Dennis Oalo cross from the right.

Sharks pulled one back in the 84th minute through substitute Patrick Ngunyi.

With the win, City Stars moved to the 26-point mark, but maintained position 15 after the full set of games on Saturday, as Sharks stayed eleventh with 33 points.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is a matchday 27 tie against Kakamega Homeboyz in the same Annex on Wed 26 April 2023 starting at 1 p.m.

MD23: Nairobi City Stars 2 Posta Rangers 3

Second-half substitute Kelvin Etemesi’s quickfire brace proved not enough for Nairobi City Stars as the team went down 3-2 to Posta Rangers in a historic matchday 23 FKF Premier League tie played at the Police Sacco Stadium on Sunday 9 April 2023.

Etemesi’s two goals in a five minutes blitz, the first in the 51st minute, canceled out a first-half brace by Brian Marita to tie the game at 2-2. Etemesi had replaced striker Levis Okello, who was making his first start alongside James Mazembe, at the onset of the second half.

In spite of that recovery, a long-range shot by Titus Echesa in the 79th minute, off a corner kick, slid off the far post to hand Posta Rangers the 3-2 win.

From the Sunday result, Simba wa Nairobi remains 16th on the log with 20 points as Posta moved to the tenth spot with 31 points.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is an away game against Kenya Police at the same Police Sacco Stadium on Wednesday 12 April 2023 starting at 3 p.m.

Kelvin Etemesi opens up after maiden premiership goals

After 12 unsuccessful attempts in the Kenyan Premier League, forward Kelvin Etemesi Injili finally found his scoring boots that earned him his maiden goals – a brace – in the most recent game against Mathare United at Kasarani Annex on Wednesday 29 March 2023.

Etemesi grabbed his first ever topflight goal in the 22nd minute and went on to complete his brace three minutes into the second half. Vincent Owino provided both assists.

“I thank God for all these; it feels good to be on the scoresheet today for my first Premier League goal(s). I have been working hard to get here,”

“I thank the team for pushing me and believing in me. There’s more to come.” added Etemesi

In the Mathare game, Etemesi, formerly of Kangemi All Stars till the start of the season, made his ninth start of the season, earning his 13th game.

He has so far clocked 828 premier league minutes. Due to his brace against Mathare United, Etemesi was named MVP.

Debut Kenyan Premier League goals by Kelvin Etemesi – a brace – and another by Newton Ochieng led Nairobi City Stars to a 3-0 win over Mathare United, and a season double, during a match day 21 league game played at Kasarani Annex on Wednesday 29 March 2023.

Etemesi scored his maiden top flight goal in the 23rd minute then went on to complete his brace three minutes after the restart. Vincent Owino provided both assists.

Substitute Newton Ochieng slammed home his first ever premier league goal – and City Stars third – in the 86th minute after connecting well to a sure pass from newly acquired James Mazembe off a well worked counter attack. Mazembe, on loan from KCB, was making his debut for Simba wa Nairobi.

The win was the seventh for City Stars in 15 games across the last 19 years as host to Mathare United.

A blight in the game was when Owino and defender Edwin Buliba earned second yellow cards in the 71st and 73rd minutes, respectively, thereby given marching orders leaving City Stars with only nine men on the pitch.

With the win, City Stars swaps places with Mathare United to move a rank higher to the 15th spot with 20-points, one more than their Wednesday victims.

Next up is game 22 against KCB on Wednesday 5 April 2023 in Kasarani Annex starting 3 p.m.

Forward Kelvin Etemesi and fullback Calvin Masawa are two of four changes made as Nairobi City Stars plot for host team Nzoia Sugar in a fifth-round 2022-23 FKF Premier League tie in Sudi Stadium on Saturday 17 December 2022 starting 3 pm.

The two are joined in the traveling squad by goalkeeper Stephen Njunge and flyer Daniel Dante Odhiambo.

Etemesi, a topflight debutant in the season-opener against Bidco United, missed out on the last three games against Tusker, FC Talanta, and Posta Rangers, while Masawa and Njunge missed out on selection in the last two ties. Dante was rested in the last one against Rangers.

Etemesi is in to replace Ronney Kola, while Odhiambo takes up the place of winger Samuel Kapen. Masawa is in for Herit Mungai as Njunge takes up the place of fellow keeper Jacob Osano.
