    Gilbert Abala extends stay

    Flyer Gilbert Abala has extended his contract with Nairobi City Stars for a further three years, till the close of the 2027/28 season.

    Abala joined Simba wa Nairobi at the start of the 2023-24 season from fifth tier side Busia Sugar FC on an initial two-year deal.

    “Abala’s was slow off the blocks in his first season but later on got a hang of the Kenyan topflight,”

    “He has worked on many areas after is debut season and now he has fully adapted to the league,” 

    “The youngster has since burst into the City Stars starting lineup with promise of getting better which informed the contract extension for another three years. He is one for the future,” said club CEO Patrick Korir

    On his debut season, Abala featured in 12 games, mostly cameo appearances and just one start, earning 348 regular game minutes. He scored once.

    He has since improved to earn ten starts in 14 games in the 2024/25 season, clocking 858 regular game minutes. He has a goal, assist, and progressive pass to his name.

    Wasega back for Bandari test

    Kenya U20 International Rodgers Wasega is back in the City Stars squad to take on Bandari on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Machakos during a matchday eleven tie starting at 4 pm.

    Wasega missed out on recent squad selections but is now back to replace Mohammed Bajaber who drops out of the squad for the first time this season due to personal reasons.

    Other than Wasega, there’s only one other change as Robinson Asenwa swaps places with flyer Gilbert Abala in the 18-man squad.

    The two had traded places in the last game against Mathare United.

    Goalkeeper Byron Owino, and flyer Gilbert Abala are the two additions made as Nairobi City Stars takes on Mathare United in matchday 10 tie in Dandora on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 sorting at 1 pm. 

    Byron takes up the place of Elvis Ochoro as Abala comes in for forward Robinson Asenwa who both featured in the last game against Tusker FC in Machakos.

    Save for those two changes, the rest of the 18-man squad remains as is.

    Nairobi City Stars will host Sofapaka during an FKF Matchday 5 tie in Machakos on Saturday 19 October 2024 starting 1 pm.

    City Stars has hosted Sofapaka eleven times before in the premier league and registered three wins, four losses, and as many  draws.

    Gilbert Abala eyes improved season

    After his debut season, flyer Gilbert Abala is now eyeing an improved season with Nairobi City Stars.

    The lad from Busia featured in twelve games last season earning two starts but believes he can up the ante and have an even better one.

    “Last season was my first in the Kenyan topflight. The few games I featured in gave me the perfect orientation. My work is now cut out and I know what I need to do in my second season,”

    “I am putting in the right shift in training each day to improve my game,”

    “Once I get it right in training my efforts will reflect in the league. I want to score the goals as well as contribute to them when not scoring.” he added

    From his 12 games last season, Abala clocked 348 regular game minutes. He scored his maiden goal, and equalizer, in the penultimate game of the season against Sofapaka in Dandora on 15 June 2024. The game ended 1-1.

    He’s already registered a game for Simba wa Nairobi’s this season after coming on as a substitute against Bidco United at the same venue on Saturday 14 Sep 2024.
