MD24: Kenya Police 4 Nairobi City Stars 2

A 19th-minute penalty by Vincent Owino, and added time goal by Ezekiel Odera fell short of four goals scored by home team Kenya Police for Nairobi City Stars to go down 4-2 at the Police Sacco Stadium during a matchday 24 FKF Premier League tie.

Derrick Otanga opened the scores for Police in the 13th minute for a lead that lasted only six minutes as Simba wa Nairobi canceled it out with Owino’s penalty earned after Kelvin Etemesi had been brought down in the box.

Substitute Elvis Rupia slammed home an uncleared ball in the 48th minute, and added a penalty in the 66th minute, to top up on Clifton Miheso’s 62nd-minute goal for a 4-1 lead.

Substitute Odera then halved the deficit with a cool finish in the second minute of added time to add respectability to the scoreline.

With the latest result, City Stars remain 16th on the log as Kenya Police – hosting City Stars for the first time in a year-and-a-half – went a position up to fifth with 40 points.

Next up for City Stars is a home game against Vihiga Bullets on Sunday 16 April 2023 in Kasarani Annex starting at 1 p.m.

Wazito friendly ends City Stars activities for 2019

National Super League (NSL) side Nairobi City Stars edged out Premiership side Wazito 1-0 during a friendly game at Camp Toyoyo, Jericho, on Friday 20 December 2019.

Former FC 105 and AFC Leopards winger Aziz Okaka, hoping for a place in the City Stars squad in the second leg of the NSL next year, scored the lone goal in the second half.

Wazito had a chance to take the lead in the first half but Elvis Rupia blasted a spot kick wide.

It was the first win for City Stars over the same foes within the last six months as two other previous meetings ended in defeats.

During the off season in July, Wazito hit City Stars 1-0 under the watch of coach Fred Ambani at Ngong Vapor and in mid-November, under Melis Medo, Wazito knocked down City Stars 4-1 at Camp Toyoyo.

Other than Okaka, some of the players fielded by City Stars by head Sanjin Aalgic included Peter Pinchez Opiyo and Luis Tera all of whom are probable January signings.

The latest friendly game was the final activity for City Stars this year as the team takes a break till Sat 4 January 2020.
