Maloba, ‘Shitu’ in for Posta Rangers clash

From the squad that hit Bidco United 2-0 on Sunday 24 October 2021, head coach Nicholas Muyoti has made two changes ahead of the next assignment against Posta Rangers at the Thika Stadium on Saturday 30 October starting 1 pm.

Stopper Salim Shitu Abdalla, who missed the last two games against Wazito and Bidco United, has returned to the squad and is in line to face his former employers Rangers.

Also coming into the squad, for the first time this season, is ball player Oliver Maloba who had been nursing an injury.

Maloba missed the final six premier league games last season due to Kenya U23 team duty out in Ethiopia from where he returned with a thigh injury.

Shitu and Maloba take up the slots of Edwin Buliba and Charles Otieno who were part and parcel of the lot that faced Wazito and Bidco United.

From the squad that drew with Posta Rangers in the penultimate game of last season, and left it late to draw 2-2, the changes are seven.

Other than Otieno and Buliba, the other players who were in the squad then but will miss out include goalkeeper Elvis Ochoro as well as left-footed Herit Mungai.

Bolton Omwenga who started the game has since left the club while Ebrima Sanneh and John Kamau who came on as substitutes for Kevin Okumu and Davis Agesa, respectively, were not picked for the game.

Maloba is one of the new faces in the game besides keeper Jacob Osano who is in for Ochoro, overall skipper and utility fullback Calvin Masawa, as well as striker Vincent Otieno Okoth aka Jamaica.

Newcomers Michael Madoya, left-back Dennis Decha Wanjala, and stopper Lennox Ogutu complete the changes.

Finally, midfielder Michael Madoya earned his Nairobi City Stars debut with a cameo appearance in the 2-0 win over Bidco United on Sunday 24 October 2021.

Madoya, donning jersey no. 5, came on for Timothy Noor Ouma in the 80th minute.

“I could have been happier if I came on and scored at least a goal. I wanted to come on with a bang and announce myself with a goal, if not goals. That would have been memorable,”

“Nonetheless, I am happy to have grabbed my first game at City Stars and I hope to feature in many more and aid the club to greater fortunes.”

Prior to his debut in Thika, Madoya was an unused substitute in the wins over Kenya Police (2-0) and Wazito FC (3-1).

Madoya was an offseason signing from Tusker FC and was one of three additions besides left-back Dennis Decha Wanjala from Nzoia Sugar and stopper Lennox Ogutu from Mathare United.

Head coach Nicholas Muyoti has named his 20-man squad for the 2021-22 FKF Premier League season opener away to Wundayi against home team Sofapaka on Sunday 26 September 2021.

Off-season signing Dennis Wanjala, a left-back, made the cut and is in line for his debut – just as coach Muyoti – for Nairobi City Stars.

Wanjala is one of many changes from the 18-man squad that faced off with Sofapaka at the same venue back in January.

Left-footed Herit Mungai, striker Ebrima Sanneh, forward Davis Agesa, stopper Wycliffe Otieno, attacking-mid Oliver Maloba, and winger Azizi Okaka, who has since left the club, are some of the players missing the trip.

In their place are, other than Wanjala, left-footed John Kamau, utility back Edwin Buliba, field skipper Anthony Muki Kimani, forward Vincent Otieno Jamaica Okoth, overall captain Calvin Masawa, as well as striker Nicholas Kipkirui and right back Kevin Chumsy Okumu.

The January visit had seen Buliba and Muki miss out due to a thigh and shoulder injury, respectively, as Masawa, Kamau and Jamaica stayed back for tactical reasons. Chumsy and Kipkirui were yet to join the team.

  • Madoya, Wanjala join Simba wa Nairobi

Madoya, Wanjala join Simba wa Nairobi

Left-back Dennis Decha Wanjala and forward Michael Idovolo Madoya have joined Nairobi City Stars on three- and one-year deals, respectively.

Decha joins in from Nzoia Sugar where he had been for the past four seasons as Madoya onboards from league champions Tusker, his workstation for the last three years.

“Wanjala is a direct replacement for Bolton Omwenga who left the club to pursue other interests as Madoya takes up the slot vacated by Azizi Okaka who exited the club at the expiry of this contract at season end,” said club CEO Patrick Korir

“Wanjala still had a contract with Nzoia Sugar but, after successful negotiations, he was allowed to leave and join Simba wa Nairobi. We thank Nzoia Sugar for being very professional in the discussions and for having the interest of the player at heart,”

“Madoya joins in after being freed up by Tusker and, we believe, given his experience, will add the right punch up front,”

“He now links up with his former Zoo FC teammate Kipkirui. The two had a lethal combination back in the 2017 season for Zoo and a revisit of that partnership played a big part in his acquisition.” Added Korir

Wanjala will don jersey 26 that belonged to Bolton as Madoya settles for his preferred jersey number 5.
