Dennis Wanjala: We are on track

Fullback Dennis Wanjala aka Decha is of the view that Simba wa Nairobi started off the blocks slowly, then turned a corner, and is now back on track, fully.

The left-back reckons that talk of going for the league title is not outside the ranks of Nairobi City Stars.

“We were off to a relatively poor start but I have to thank my teammates for coming out set their targets, and collectively for the team,”

“Part of the challenge that we had earlier was low confidence, a bit of inexperience, and unfamiliarity,”

“Now we are a blended team and every player is putting in the right shift and constantly seeking to consolidate their position which has upped the fighting spirit and competition. That is keeping us on track for the title,”

Wanjala, now in his third term with City Stars, has featured in exactly half of the games this season – 17 – on his way to clocking 1,212 regular time minutes.

The former Nzoia Sugar player has now earned a record 124 premier league games making him the most experienced player – topflightwise – at City Stars.

    Quartet return for Talanta clash

Defenders Kenedy Vidic Onyango and Dennis Decha Wanjala, defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma, and flyer Samuel Kapen, are all back for the second last game of the 2022-23 FKF Premier League season against FC Talanta set for Kasarani Annex on Tuesday 20 June 2023 starting at 3 pm.

The quartet all missed the last game played at the same venue during the last round against Nzoia Sugar for varied reasons.

While Kapen and Onyango were serving yellow card suspensions, Clifford and Wanjala were nursing cuts following a collision during a recent game against AFC Leopards in Nyayo Stadium.

Abuyeka Kubasu named for Nzoia tie, set for debut

Midfielder Abuyeka Kubasu is the freshest Nairobi City Stars player to be named for a league game, this time for a 32nd-round FKF Premier League tie against Nzoia Sugar in Kasarani Annex on Saturday 3 June 2023 starting at 3.15 pm.

Abuyeka, signed from Vapor Sports in the mid-March transfer window, is the 33rd – and last – Simba wa Nairobi player to be named for a league game this season.

In being named to the matchday squad, Abuyeka, a Dagoretti High School alumnus, moves ever so close to making his Kenyan topflight debut.

Other than Abuyeka, the other changes in the 19-man squad includes Ronney Kola and keeper Jacob Osano who both missed out on the last tie against AFC Leopards in Nyayo Stadium on Monday.

City Stars heads to the Nzoia game with the leanest of squads following the absence of four players who featured in the Monday game.

Centre-back Kenedy Vidic Onyango and flyer Samuel Kapen have been left out due to yellow card suspension (five each), while left-back Dennis Decha Wanjala and defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma are out due a collision that left them in stitches.

It’s a century for Dennis Wanjala

Nairobi City Stars left-back Dennis Wanjala aka Decha reached a personal milestone after registering Kenyan Premier League game number 100 in the recent game against Kariobangi Sharks in Kasarani Annex on Saturday 22 April 2023.

In the Sharks game, Wanjala picked up his 15th game this season, to make it game number 37 in City Stars colors since September 2021.

“It pleases me to learn that I have attained game 100 in the kenyan top flight. I see growth since my days at Nzoia (Sugar) till now at Nairobi City Stars,”

“That motivates me even more and I now wish to go on and lift the Kenyan premier league title soon, and to one day feature for the Kenya national team,”

“In the meantime, it is my desire to push Nairobi City Stars to a much better position. We want to suprise everyone in the closing stages of the current season.” added Wanjala
