While Ouma was out due to National team duty in Juba, Kalama and Wasega missed out on the 18-man squad that faced Gor Mahia and picked a 2-1 win for the first win of the season.

Of the 18 players that featured in that game, there is only one change after the exit of Centre back cum right back Edwin Buliba who was ejected due to a red card after accumulating two yellow cards.

    Clifford Ouma cherishes CHAN consideration

Defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma has been spurred by a recent callup to the Kenya Africa Championship (CHAN) squad that travelled to South Sudan for a preliminary first leg clash in Juba on Sunday 27 October, 2024.

Clifford was one of two Nairobi City Stars players who made the final cut alongside central cum attacking mid Vincent Owino.

Though he wasn’t considered in the game, thereby missing out on a Kenyan debut, Ouma collected loads of positives from that callup.

“It was a good experience even though things changed (for me not to play). I thank God for that golden opportunity as it added some positivity to my profile,”

“I can for sure say it was amazing being part of the Kenya national team. I will now have to work harder to get some playing time,” added the former Migori Youth skipper

After the Juba trip, Ouma returned to Simba wa Nairobi club duties and is now refocused on turning things around for the club.

“I have been working so hard to get back to the starting 11. The coach has been seeing my effort and it’s therefore time for me to deliver for the team,”

“We had a false start but we are going to turn things around since we have a good team with quality players. City Stars now has the best team compared to the last two seasons so we can’t afford to donate points anyhow, and anymore.” he added

Cliff has so far featured in 49 games for Simba wa Nairobi since his arrival in 2022, and will be seeking a historic half century appearance in the away game against Shabana in Gusii on Sunday 3 November, 2024.

Ouma, Opinde considered for Mara Sugar test

There will be two notable changes from the squad that opened the season against Bidco United last weekend when City Stars takes on Mara Sugar in matchday three on Saturday 21 Sept 2024 in Awendo starting at 3 p.m.

Head-to-head: Mara Sugar (H) vs Nairobi City Stars (A) vs: 2024-25 FKF-PL season

Two left backs Rogers Wasega who made a full debut against Bidco, and newcomer Stephen Bulugu are all out of the travelling squad and their places have been snapped up by new defender Brian Opinde and defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma.

Wasega recently earned a callup to the Kenya U20 team preparing for CECAFA duty in a fortnight and has been given time off to prepare for camp from Sunday.

A slight injury has kept Bulugu out therefore giving a chance to Ouma to make the trip.

Save for the two changes, the other 18 players all maintained their places in the squad.

Defenders: 4. Timothy Muganda, 6. Brian Opinde, 8. Calvin Masawa, 12. Edwin Buliba, 15. Wycliffe Omondi, , 30. Rowland Makati

  • Clifford Ouma: We are a better team now

Clifford Ouma: We are a better team now

Defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma Otieno’s reflection of the 2023-24 FKF Premier League season is a simple one; Nairobi City Stars has punched well above its weight compared to last term.

While he acknowledges his early struggles and his ambitions, Cliff also shares a hint of why the team has since turned the corner.

Cliff made a cameo appearance in game one against Muhoroni Youth in Kasarani Annex, then went on to become an unused substitute in the next seven games before returning to the starting lineup in game nine against Muranga SEALS. He has gone on to start all games thereafter, completing all save for two against AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks.

“My season started on a low note. That forced me to work tirelessly to regain my place in the first team,”

“It was not been easy because I also had tough and determined teammates who were also eager to own the same position that I play in,”

“My target this season is to fight so hard to get a national team call-up and get some reasonable offers outside the Country.” added the former Migori Youth skipper

In retrospect, Cliff believes Simba wa Nairobi’s current crop of players is a lot more promising than last season.

“So far I can say we have a better team compared to the last season. Simba wa Nairobi is now made up of a young and energetic group who are working together as a unit. It’s a group that’s ready to learn and demand more from each other,”

    Further, Cliff also relates the team’s upward mobility to coaching;

“We are giving out positive results due to our able technical bench led by (Nicholas) Muyoti who has been demanding a lot from us as a team,”

“That push has brought about massive difference results-wise compared to last season,” he added

Cliff has so far featured in 11 games this season clocking 870 minutes. Overall, his premier league games have now improved to 39.
