Substitute Abuyeka Kubasu’s goal of a corner in the 55th minute, and a highly contested penalty, from Vincent Nyabuto at the hour mark settled a National Super League (NSL) matchday 26 tie between Nairobi City Stars and MOFA at 1-1 in GEMS Cambridge on Saturday 28 March 2026.

Abuyeka, on for injured Joseph Mwangi in the 25th minute, got to a sublime low corner taken by James Kibande for the opener. But soon after, the visitors were awarded a highly contentious penalty that Nyabuto scored to level matters at 1-1.

The reverse fixture – matchday 1 between the two sides back in September 2025 ended in a 1-0 win in favor of MOFA.

Simba wa Nairobi improves to the 34 point mark to remain eleventh in the 20-team log as MOFA moved into fourth spot with 45 points.

Simba wa Nairobi went down 3–2 to Kibera Black Stars in a 2025/26 National Super League (NSL) matchday four encounter played at Ngong Vapor Grounds on Sunday, 26 October 2025.

Two headers from corners in the 11th and 56th minutes by Fidel Castro and Bockins Adeya, respectively, put Black Stars in control. In between, City Stars had pulled one back in the 33rd minute when attacking midfielder Abuyeka Kubasu nodded in a Stephen Bulugu freekick from the left, earned after Lawrence Luvanda was fouled, for a 1-1 draw at the break. The goal marked Abuyeka’s first-ever league strike for the club.

Black Stars’ Jephiter Bundi then capitalized on a defensive lapse on the hour mark to stretch the game to 3-1 for the visitors.

On 71 minutes, Joshua Amunike grabbed a second for Simba wa Nairobi-his third goal in as many matches-to set up a tense finale that eventually ended 3–2 in favor of Black Stars.

The Sunday fixture was the first meeting between the two sides at this level since 14 December 2019 at Camp Toyoyo, when Black Stars edged City Stars 1-0 courtesy of a Janyeel Otieno goal that ended City Stars’ 23-match unbeaten NSL run.

With the defeat, City Stars drop from sixth to eighth place on eight points, while Black Stars climb to third on ten points in the 20-team standings.

Next up for City Stars is a midweek clash against Darajani Gogo at Ngong Vapor Grounds on Thursday, 30 October 2025, with kick-off set for 3 p.m.

Abuyeka Kubasu raring to go after Gor outing

For the second time in five months, midfielder Abuyeka Kubasu was on the field of play against Gor Mahia in the premier league.

Better still, in his second show, on Saturday 17 February 2024 during a matchday 22 FKF Premier League tie in Machakos, Abuyeka earned his most minutes in the topflight league after coming on early in the second half for Japanese forward Yuto Kusaba.

Back in September 2023, he earned his topflight debut – alongside former Vapor teammate Robinson Asenwa – against Gor Mahia in Kasarani during matchday three after earning 15 minutes of playtime.

“I had waited for long and I am happy to have finally returned to the field. I gave my all against and I will do the same when handed more playtime in the upcoming games,” said Kubasu

“It has not been easy for me because I had to return to the basics and improve on a few areas that I needed to upgrade and improve on during training sessions and friendly games,”

“Nothing comes easy. To get here, motivation from my coaches and teammates has been worth appreciating. I am now happy and raring to go,” he added

In between the two Gor Mahia games, Abuyeka had a cameo show against Kenya Police on matchday six at the Police Sacco Stadium and has had to wait for four-and-a-half months for what was only his third premier league game.
