Head-to-head: AFC Leopards (H) vs Nairobi City Stars (A): 2021/22 FKF Premier League season

On Monday 6 June 2022, Nairobi City Stars will be away to AFC Leopards in a round 33 FKF Premier League tie in Thika Stadium starting 3 pm.

The tie was originally planned for Saturday 4 June in Nyayo Stadium but moved a day back to Sunday 5th June at the same venue. But unavailability of the facility forced the shift out of town, and to Monday 6th June.

It will be a historic tie as Leopards has never hosted Simba wa Nairobi in Thika

It will be the 22nd top-flight meeting between the two sides since the year 2005. Overall, Leopards has registered nine wins, City Stars seven wins and the other five games have ended in draws.

In ten previous away games, City Stars has managed one win over Leopards, drawn five, and lost four times.

In the upcoming tie, City Stars will be looking to register only their second away win over Leopards since January 2006.

Heading to the upcoming game, City Stars carries a 3-2 loss to Gor Mahia from last weekend as Leopards comes on the high of a 2-0 away win over title-chasing Kakamega Homeboyz.

For yet another game, City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti, a Leopard’s old boy, will come up against his counterpart Patrick Aussems who masterminded a 1-0 first-leg win in Nyayo.

Table-wise, Simba wa Nairobi sits fifth on the log with 47 points, two ahead of eighth-placed AFC Leopards

‘Shitu’, Kuta return for Leopards clash

Stopper Salim Shitu Abdala and forward Augustine Kuta are among four changes made as Nairobi City Stars shape up for a 33rd round FKF Premier League tie against AFC Leopards in Thika Stadium on Monday 6 June 2022 starting 3 pm.

Shitu returns after missing the last game against Gor Mahia as Kuta makes a re-entry to the squad after sitting out two games.

Other than Shitu and Kuta, in for Wycliffe Otieno and Nicholas Kipkirui respectively, the other two changes include the return of winger John Kamau and defensive-mid Charles Otieno.

Both Charles and Kamau return after missing the Gor Mahia, and are in for Michael Madoya and Davis Agesa.

From the squad that featured in the first leg in Nyayo Stadium in early January 2022, changes are five.

Other than Agesa, Madoya, and Kipkirui, others that won’t feature in the upcoming game include Oliver Maloba and keeper Stephen Njunge.

Kuta, midfielders Rowland Makati, Elvis Noor Ojiambo, forward Mohammed Bajaber, and keeper Elvis Ochoro have taken up their slots.

New date, venue for Leopards’ fight

AFC Leopards will now host Nairobi City Stars in FKF Premier League matchday 33 on Monday 6 June 2022 in Thika Stadium starting 3 pm.

The game had initially been planned for Saturday 4 June in Nyayo Stadium but was later pegged back by a day to Sunday at the same venue.

“Leopards informed us first of the shift from Saturday to Sunday in Nyayo, and later came back to inform us that due to lack of the original venue on Sunday, the game had to be moved to Thika on Monday,”

“We have since taken note of the inevitable changes and informed our technical bench accordingly.” said club CEO Patrick Korir

Simba wa Nairobi last played in Thika in early March 2022 while hosting Posta Rangers.

Club Statement: Theft in Kasarani

Nairobi City Stars wishes to confirm that, during a 32nd round FFK Premier League match against Gor Mahia in Kasarani (main) on Sunday 29 May 2022, players and technical bench members lost personal belongings including cash and mobile phones from the changing room.

The items were stolen during the first half, and the occurrences was only known when the team returned to their designated room at half time.

The shock caused a five minute delay to the start of the second half and after the game, it was ascertained that a total of 13 phones were stolen and up to 18 persons lost cash totalling Kshs. 94,050, or thereabout.

At half time, the team returned to the changing room only to find bags and open wallets strewn on the floor. On checking, most realised they had lost cash and mobile phones. Very few were lucky as one row of bags was untouched.

It was double tragedy for Nicholas Kipkirui, Wycliffe Otieno, Davis Agesa, Jacob Osano, Rowland Makati, assistant coach John Amboko, keeper trainer Zachary Onyango and trainer Arthur Museve who lost both phones and cash.

Goalkeeper Elvis Ochoro, defenders Herit Mungai, Midfielders Sven Yidah, Anthony Kimani, and Mohamed Bajaber lost their phones only.

Stopper Kenedy Onyango, striker Ezekiel Odera, Mike Madoya, Calvin Masawa, Edwin Buliba, the Noor siblings of Timothy Ouma and Elvis Ojiambo, flyer Rodgers Okuse Okumu, Kevin Chumsy Okumu, and assistant coach Noah Abich lost cash.

Forward Agesa, on top of losing cash and a phone, also lost a pair of boots.

The room was locked just before kick off and unlocked at half time. Notwithstanding, a back widow, fastened before departure from the room, was found open under very unclear circumstances.

The matter was immediately raised with the Kasarani Stadium security team. They will commence investigations with a check on CCTV footage on Monday morning.

The incident was also reported to the Kasarani Stadium Police station. They promised to get to the bottom of the matter in collaboration with the Stadium security team.

We thank both the Kasarani security team as well as the nearby police post for being very cooperative in their quest to unravel the case.

As a team, we urge anyone who may have information that can bring those involved to book to come forward and assist.

As we wait for a way forward, we urge the Stadium owner to consider securing the wide open windows with, at the very least, grills, to act as a physical deterent for the safety of future users of the changing rooms.

Nairobi City Stars 2 Gor Mahia 3

Home team Nairobi City Stars went down 3-2 to Gor Mahia in Kasarani on Sunday 29 May 2022 during an FKF Premier League matchday 32 tie.

City Stars, hosting Gor for the 13th time in the top flight, opened the scores through skipper Anthony Muki Kimani in the 32nd minute – his sixth of the season – only for Gor to send the game tied 1-1 at half time with a Samuel Onyango low shot in the 42nd minute.

Right at the restart, Timothy Babu Ouma sent City Stars 2-1 ahead matching Muki with his sixth of the season.

But again, Gor responded, four minutes after the hour mark, when Benson Omala got to a split pass in the box to fire low at the far post.

In the 72nd minute Gor custodian Gad Mathew’s was slapped with a straight red after stopping Muki a goal scoring opportunity outside the box.

11 minutes later, Gor went ahead for the first time when a cut back from the left was bundled home by a City Stars defender.

The visitors held on for the win turning tables on Simba wa Nairobi who won the first leg tie 2-0 in Nyayo Stadium.

From the latest results, Gor moved up to fourth place with 51 points, ahead of fight placed City Stars with a point-less.

Next up for City Stars is an away game to AFC Leopards in Nyayo Stadium on Saturday 4 June 2022.
