Etemesi, Masawa return for Nzoia trip

Forward Kelvin Etemesi and fullback Calvin Masawa are two of four changes made as Nairobi City Stars plot for host team Nzoia Sugar in a fifth-round 2022-23 FKF Premier League tie in Sudi Stadium on Saturday 17 December 2022 starting 3 pm.

The two are joined in the traveling squad by goalkeeper Stephen Njunge and flyer Daniel Dante Odhiambo.

Etemesi, a topflight debutant in the season-opener against Bidco United, missed out on the last three games against Tusker, FC Talanta, and Posta Rangers, while Masawa and Njunge missed out on selection in the last two ties. Dante was rested in the last one against Rangers.

Etemesi is in to replace Ronney Kola, while Odhiambo takes up the place of winger Samuel Kapen. Masawa is in for Herit Mungai as Njunge takes up the place of fellow keeper Jacob Osano.

Kisilu to build on topflight debut

Diminutive flyer Andrew Kisilu Ngati made his Kenyan Premier League bow on Sunday 11 December 2022 after coming on as a substitute as Nairobi City Stars took on Posta Rangers in match day four in Thika Stadium.

Kisilu plugged into the left wing in place of Oliver Maloba in the 65th minute for his maiden topflight appearance.

His debut against Rangers arrived on the day he first made the 18-man squad having missed out on the three opening games of the season against Bidco United, Tusker FC, and FC Talanta as he fully recovered from an injury.

“I wish to say thanks to the Coach (Nicholas Muyoti),the technical bench and team mates for the belief. I am looking to build on that debut and help the team going forward.” said Kisilu

Kisilu, signed from second-tier side Dandora Love, arrived in the off-season to boost Simba wa Nairobi’s attack line.

Clifford Ouma speaks up after first full Premiership game

Defensive midfielder Clifford Ouma Otieno is a happy lad after earning his first full Kenyan Premier League game as Nairobi City Stars forced a 0-0 draw away to Posta Rangers in Thika Stadium on Sunday 11 December 2022.

His first start ended up well as he went on to clock a full 90 minutes in the process picking up a man-of-the-match accolade.

“I feel I did well in my first 90+ debut game, but there’s still lots to do. I want to thank my Coach (Nicholas Muyoti) for giving me an opportunity to prove myself,”

“I suppose he was satisfied with what he saw in that game and I believe he’ll build more confidence in me as time goes by,” said Cliff, the former Migori Youth skipper

On the way to a complete premiership game, Clifford was introduced to the Kenyan top flight in Ruaraka on matchday two against Tusker FC after replacing Peter Opiyo in the 87th minute.

He earned more minutes in the next game against FC Talanta at the same venue in match day three after taking up Opiyo’s place in the 79th minute.

His debut never went well as Simba wa Nairobi went down 4-1 to the defending Champions Tusker.

“It was my debut day against Tusker but the big day never went well. We lost. I hate losing. I hope to gather more minutes and playtime as we go along and help my team gain more positive results.”

Clifford will be hoping to retain his place in the squad as City Stars heads away to face Nzoia United in Sudi in match day five on Saturday 17 December 2022.

MD4: Posta Rangers 0 Nairobi City Stars 0

For a fifth time in seven away games to Posta Rangers, Nairobi City Stars managed a draw, this time 0-0, when the two faced off in Thika Stadium on Sunday 11 December during a matchday four 2022-23 FKF Premier League tie.

Though goalless, Posta Rangers will rue missed chances, especially towards the end of the first half.

City Stars went agonizingly close to stealing all spoils right at the death had substitute Ezekiel Odera’s lob not weave off the upright he had pounced on a long drop goal from keeper Elvis Ochoro.

In spite of the draw, both sides improved from losses from the last round of games; City Stars having gone down 2-1 to FC Talanta, and Rangers having come out from a 1-0 loss to Ulinzi Stars.

Next up for Simba wa Nairobi is an away game in Sudi against Nzoia Sugar on Saturday 17 December 2022.
