Dennis Oalo: Better results on the way

Forward Dennis Oalo is of the opinion that Nairobi City Stars will have improved results going forward.

He made the comments after Simba wa Nairobi’s 5-2 win over Vihiga Bullets in Kasarani Annex on Sunday 16 April 2023 during a matchday 25 FKF Premier League tie.

Oalo featured in that match as a second-half substitute and left with an assist after teeing up Samuel Kapen for the fifth and final goal of the game in the 87th minute.

“We had a good performance against Vihiga Bullets. We achieved that result because all the players gave more than 100% in terms of performcance,” said the immediate former FC Talanta player.

“The team has now gelled very well and I can say that better results are on the way. The Simba wa Nairobi fraternity should know that we wont dissapoint them. We need their support now.” added Oalo

Since arriving in the mid-transfer window in February, Oalo has gone on to feature in six games.

Abuyeka Kubasu

Abuyeka Kubasu: I am taking in vital lessons

Central midfielder Abuyeka Kubasu, a mid-season signing, has a wish list – to break into the Nariobi City Stars team before the 2022/23 FKF Premier League season comes to an end in June.

The immediate former Dagoretti High student featured for Vapor Sports in the third tier before crossing over to Simba wa Nairobi in February 2023.

Abuyeka is yet to make the cut for matchdays but believes it’s only a matter of time before makes his bow in the top flight.

But before then, he admits that he has his work cut out before he can achieve his dream.

“Training with Nairobi City Stars has been a real eye-opener. Mingling with some known and very experienced players has changed my view and approach,”

“I have learned so much in the last few months and have been brought up to speed on key aspects of the game that I may have bypassed while featuring in the lower leagues. Things like when to press effectively, one-time control, and many others,”

“I believe that I am a much better player now and I am all psyched up for the top flight. I am now working hard to make the matchday squad and then earn my first league game. From there I can build it up and establish myself further.”

“I am encouraged because some players who I featured with at Vapor Sports recently such as Timothy Ouma now in Sweden began making his big strides at City Stars. Now Rowland Makati, Pius Omachi, and Newton Ochieng  whom I played with recently are slowly establishing themselves. I want to follow in their foot steps.” added Abuyeka

Other than featuring in midfield, Abuyeka can plug in at right-back which was his area of operation earlier on.

He is currently the only City Stars player yet to feature in the premier league this season. Another 31 players have already clocked their minutes in the top flight.

Timothy Muganda talks up topflight debut

Finally, center-back Timothy Muganda (pointing at camera) earned his Kenyan Premier League debut after featuring in the 5-2 win over Vihiga Bullets on Sunday 16 April 2023 during a matchday 25 FKF Premier League tie played in Kasarani Annex.

The big stopper left the game with a contribution of a second assist that led to the second goal as he went on to clock a full 90 minutes in his first topflight show.

“I am happy to have finally made my premier league debut. I must say it well very well though it’s not as I expected. I felt very confident about myself but there was a  bit of adrenaline flow at some point,”

“The team is very competitive now but after that debut, I will work even harder to maintain my spot. I am looking forward to many more games and to helping my team post positive results in the remaining games of the season.” added the former Soy United and Mara Sugar player

Muganda was dogged by injury in the preseason which ruled him out of action for a better part of the first leg. His debut came after being an unused substitute on six previous occasions.

In being fielded against Bullets, Muganda became the ninth player at City Stars to earn his premier league debut, and the 31st player to feature in the league this season for Simba wa Nairobi.

A brace of goals from Kelvin Etemesi, a debut goal by Dennis Wanjala, and two more goals by Vincent Owino and Samuel Kapen led Nairobi City Stars to a 5-2 win over Vihiga Bullets during a matchday 26 tie in Kasarani Annex on Sunday 16 April 2023.

The visitors got their goals from striker Joseph Oyugi in the 41st minute via a penalty, and an added time goal – an own goal by center-back Kenedy Onyango.

Etemesi scored in the 3rd and 15th minutes, for his third brace in the last five games to improve his haul for the season to six goals, off assists by Mohammed Bajaber, and Clifford Ouma.

Wanjala added the third two minutes after Etemesi’s second with a long-range shot from Andrew Kisilu’s layup that beat the Vihiga United keeper Reuben Nyongesa all the way.

Owino scored in successive games after placing home Ezekiel Odera’s assist in the 78th minute, before Kapen made it goal number six for the season with a rifled shot to the roof in the 87th minute of a Dennis Oalo assist.

Head-to-head: Nairobi City Stars (H) vs ihiga Bullets (A): 2022/23 FKF Premier League season

For only the second time across two seasons, Nairobi City Stars will host Vihiga Bullets, in Kasarani Annex on Sunday 16 April 2023 during a matchday 25 tie set to kick off at 1 p.m.
